The Greenkeeper’s Revenge – and it was EPIC!
Welcome back home! – said a little apprehensively, as the day you all waited for (or dreaded, depending on your handicap) had finally arrived: The Greenkeeper’s Revenge!

Our Course SUPER-intendent, Charl Blaauw, a man of vision and, apparently, a penchant for playful torment, had been hard at work.

The spring treatment, a necessary evil for the long-term health and beauty of our beloved course, was a resounding success.

However, it was soon discovered that success in one area sometimes means a challenge in another. While the course is indeed recovering, it’s still a little rough around the edges.

We did not welcome you back with velvet gloves, folks; we welcomed you back with boxing gloves!

Playing well was entirely optional but bringing your sense of humor, however, was absolutely mandatory. 4 Ball Alliance, unless otherwise stated on the rules sheet attached to scorecards.

Rules and formats
We even arranged live entertainment to soothe battered egos, and prego rolls afterwards to refuel those weary bodies and minds.

The word “revenge” is defined as “the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands.” In this case, the “injury” was the spring treatment, and the “wrong” was… well, perhaps just the general wear and tear you inflict on our beautiful course throughout the year! Consider this our superintendent’s playful, yet firm, reminder of who truly holds the power on these hallowed grounds.

Champions!
Longest Day
Get ready, St Francis Links members – they’ve decreed a rematch!
Remember that glorious Friday when we hosted our “Good Neighbours” from Humewood?

The sun was shining, the course was pristine, and our team delivered an absolutely dominant display, securing a resounding 14-2 victory! It was a spectacle, a celebration of golf, and a testament to the incredible talent we have here at St Francis Links. We extend a huge thank you to the Humewood management team – Brendon Timm, Dylan Reid, Wiele Rademeyer, and Hugo Maritz (Humewood captain) – for their sportsmanship and for making the initial event such a success.

Now, mark your calendars for October 31st, because we’re heading to Humewood for the return fixture, and let’s just say they’ll be looking for revenge!

While we might have suggested they’d need a “Miracle at Medinah” type comeback, we know they’ll be bringing their A-game on their home turf. This is more than just a golf match; it’s a chance to renew friendly rivalries, enjoy another fantastic day on a links course, and show them that our victory wasn’t a fluke! Let’s rally our support and cheer on our St Francis Links team as they aim to continue their winning streak. Get ready for another thrilling chapter in the “Battle of Links Courses”!

Get ready to get Eclectic!
We’re thrilled to announce our Eclectic Competition, running from 1 June to 30 September 2025.

For those new to the term, “eclectic” isn’t just a fancy word for “a bit of everything” – it means you get to pick your best score on each hole over the entire competition period. In short – golf’s greatest hits! This isn’t a one-and-done deal, however, you need to be consistent!

To truly conquer the eclectic, you need to be out there, rain or shine. Every individual Strokeplay/Stableford round counts! That seemingly insignificant tap in on a blustery Wednesday could be the difference between bragging rights … or some banter being sent around in “The Bunker” (that’s the new lower section in Jack’s Bar!)

Overcoming these “obstacles” is what separates the contenders from the “I’d rather join the knitting club” crowd. To keep you on the edge of your golf carts, we’ve got real-time leaderboards set up on ScoreCapture.

Check them out regularly to see where you stand and who you need to beat.

What do
YOU WANT?
Why do you play golf? What is important about the game to you? Which of the following reasons motivate you to play the game?
If we’ve missed any potential motivations, then please feel free to send us your suggestions.

A simple question
We would be interested in your answer to a very simple question. It compares the importance of two of the motivations in the circle above. Read the question and please send us your answer.

The motivations for others
There are very good reasons for children to participate in the game through a structured coaching programme.

We would add three other Cs to this wheel. Challenge (learning through struggle). Competence (gaining skills). In 2025 we’d also add CONNECTION. The ability in the real world to interact and connect with others away from phones, screens, computers etc.

If you have a child you’d like us to introduce to golf, then please reach out. Call in at the club or send us a ‘contact’ request and we’ll reach out to you.
