St Francis Links Reigns Supreme as the Battle of the Links concludes!
What a year it’s been for the St Francis Links golf team!

The much-anticipated Good Neighbour event against our esteemed rivals from Humewood has been wrapped up!

Our ladies and gents delivered an emphatic 14 to 1 victory at home, setting a high bar and leaving Humewood with a score to settle with our visit.

Well, settle it they did! The return fixture at Humewood was always going to be a test of mettle, with the Humewood team undoubtedly hungry for revenge. But our St Francis Links heroes stood their ground in some seriously windy conditions!

In a hard-fought contest, and a slightly more palatable scoreline for the Humewood team, St Francis Links secured a 10 to 8 victory on the day!

With an overall score of 24 to 9 for the year! St Francis Links are the Champions!

A massive round of applause goes out to every single player who represented St Francis Links in these thrilling encounters.

Special mention to Norman Pretorius for his spectacular hole-in-one on the 14th hole at Humewood! On a very, very, very windy day (and a rather challenging hole in normal conditions), that perfectly executed punch 6 iron found its mark, proving that even Mother Nature couldn’t get in the way of what was to eventually be our day.

We also extend our gratitude to our Club Captain, Graham Botha, who represented us with such great aplomb at both fixtures.

And finally, a big thank you to the team at Humewood Golf Club for their hospitality and for providing such a challenging and enjoyable course. We hear they’ve already started their training sessions on foot for next year.

We look forward to continuing this friendly rivalry next year!

The ladies of the Links shine again!
What a fantastic showing for St Francis Links at the Champion of Champions event hosted at Val de Grace!

Our very own Sue Gray and Isabella Obray represented us with distinction, showcasing their talent among the elite amateur golfers in their respective categories. Their performances were truly something to celebrate, bringing pride to our club.

Isabella Obray, competing in the Ladies A Division, demonstrated remarkable skill and consistency, securing an impressive 8th-place finish.

Not to be outdone, Sue Gray, representing St Francis Links in the Ladies C Division, delivered an outstanding performance, tying for 5th place.

Both ladies, as champions in their divisions at St Francis Links, proved they belong among the best, and we are incredibly fortunate to have such talented and lovely individuals representing our club at this level. Well done, ladies, on these great finishes!

The Front Nine vs. The Back Nine: A Clash of Titans!
The day promises to be filled with friendly rivalry and fantastic golf, all starting bright and early with a Shotgun Start 8h00. But before you tee off, make sure you’ve entered and you’re downstairs for the briefing at 07h00.

This thrilling event is an 18-hole Individual Matchplay – 100% Handicap Conversion
Leading the charge for our two formidable teams are our esteemed Captains!

Representing The Sand River Sharks is the one and only: Graham Botha,
and Representing the Hilltop Herons, we have Jannie Olivier.

Both are ready to lead their teams to victory!

Scoring will be a breeze with ScoreCapture. Remember to diligently record your scores on ScoreCapture even after your game concludes, as the differential is crucial for determining the overall team score.

And now for the ultimate motivation: the stakes have never been higher! The losers will be buying the winners’ lunch at the Prize Giving. So, practice those putts and perfect those drives, because nobody wants to be on the losing end of that deal!

Remember to look the part!

For our Herons Team, we want to see your brightest, boldest golfing outfits. Think vibrant colours and daring patterns – have a look in the golf shop; we have some fun, vibrant shorts if you want to match them with an equally bold shirt!

As for the Sharks Team, your uniform is a classic and cool white shirt with beige shorts.

Let’s make this a day to remember, both on and off the course!

Rebuild connections
The combination of endless streaming options, social media infinite scrolls and more working from home have broken down real-world human interaction and connection. One of the best ways to rebuild those connections is a shared interest in an outdoor activity that gives you plenty of time to socialise. You know that golf gives you all this and more, so why not share that joy with others?
Research into life expectancy and happiness suggests that social connection has a major part to play in mental and physical health. We need to socialise and share interests as part of a community to stay healthy and happy. Golf ticks all those boxes.
