Burmester to play in Fitch and Leedes PGA Championship as part of Stinger GC’s support of Sunshine Tour
(Article courtesy of The Sunshine Tour)
Dean Burmester has confirmed that he will play in November’s Fitch & Leedes PGA Championship on the Sunshine Tour as part of a personal desire with his teammates at Stinger GC to play a greater role in the growth of this event and to continue supporting the Tour where their careers began.
Stinger GC, which consists of captain Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace and Burmester, has further contributed to the increase in the prize money for this year’s Fitch & Leedes PGA Championship to R3 million.

The Fitch & Leedes PGA Championship is South Africa’s second oldest professional tournament, and Burmester will head to St Francis Links from 27-30 November seeking to join a rare club of golfers who have won this tournament multiple times after his victory here in 2021.

“I’m very excited to play in the Fitch & Leedes PGA Championship. I have fond memories of winning this tournament in 2021 and it’s always an honour when you can win such a prestigious title on the Sunshine Tour and add your name to a trophy that has the names of some of Southern Africa’s greatest golfers on it. It’s going to be very special to be back there and supporting an event I’ve always held in high regard,” said Burmester.

Speaking as captain of Stinger GC, Louis Oosthuizen outlined his team’s desire to play an even greater role in supporting the Sunshine Tour and its premier tournaments.

“All four of us are homegrown Sunshine Tour players. We all started our careers on this Tour and took the opportunities provided to take our games to the international stage. It’s a privilege now for us to serve as an inspiration for the next generation of Sunshine Tour professionals to do the same, and that’s why we take every opportunity that we can to come home and support the Sunshine Tour.

“The Fitch & Leedes PGA Championship is one of our most prestigious tournaments and I’m proud to have won it twice. I know what it meant for my career. While we’d all like to be able to play in it this year, Dean will be there to represent us. Stinger GC and we as the players look forward to playing our part in the growth of this great event going forward.”

We are so excited to host this prestigious event for the fifth year! The Fitch & Leedes PGA Championship is South Africa’s second oldest professional tournament. Visitors will be most welcome to come and watch and entry is free!
St Francis Links Podcast in the USA
Ricky Potts spoke with Jeff Clause last week … and this is a must listen!
St Francis Links, one of the Distinguished Clubs of the World (https://www.distinguishedgolfdestinations.com/official-list/) is widely recognized as one of the top golf destinations in the country and has earned a reputation both for its challenging course and its community-centred living.

In a recent episode of The Wednesday Match Play Podcast, brought to you by Ricky Potts, who has his own blog in the USA, he invited Jeff to talk about his journey to St Francis Links, being a PGA Master Professional and his connection to Jack Nicklaus.

Ricky said that it was such a heartwarming conversation and an honour having Jeff on the show.

Our annual celebration of our St Francis Links team
What a party!
The annual St Francis Links staff celebration party was a truly wonderful event on Monday, filled with joy, laughter and a vibrant beach theme that brought everyone together in a relaxed and festive spirit. Our thanks to Nick and 22 Eatery for delicious food enjoyed with lively music and the usual Footloose line-dance tradition!

A highlight each year is the recognition of long-service staff, who were warmly applauded and awarded for their dedication and years of contribution. St Francis Links recognise 5, 10 and 15 years of service!  With 20 next year!  This year, we awarded:

Lynette Stander – 5 years
Olivia Andrews – 5 years
Renaldo Walters – 5 years
Ayanda Jan – 10 years

Excitement filled the air as lucky draws were announced, with cheers and laughter echoing as winners claimed their prizes. It was a memorable celebration that strengthened bonds, showed appreciation and reminded everyone why the team truly feels like a family.

A special mention to Caryl and Bart Logie, who have been part of the Links family since 2004 when Caryl was engaged botanically.  And nostalgia filled the air as Jeff Clause was honoured in a moving tribute by Danisile Mhlabeni and Sydney Claassen who have been part of the Links since day one.

Get ready for the “Battle of the Babes” rematch!
St Francis Links vs St Francis Bay Ladies
Hold onto your golf clubs, Ladies. On 13 October, the greens of St Francis Links will once again play host to the legendary “Ladies’ Battle of the Babes,” as our formidable St Francis Links ladies take on the equally fabulous St Francis Bay ladies! Get ready for another epic showdown that promises more laughs, more camaraderie, and perhaps a few more errant shots than usual (all in good fun, of course!).

We’ve heard whispers from both sides, tales of secret practice sessions, new lucky charms, and even a few (unconfirmed) reports of early morning putting drills under the cover of darkness!

A massive shout-out and a hearty round of applause go to PW Harvey, who is generously on board this year as a sponsor!

Muirfield at St Francis Links
A Day of Tradition, Camaraderie, and (Hopefully) Good Golf!
Get ready, gentlemen of St Francis Links, for an event that promises to be as steeped in tradition as a well-aged single malt and as competitive as a friendly wager on the 1st tee! We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Muirfield event, hosted right here at St Francis Links on Tuesday, October 28th.

For those unfamiliar with the hallowed traditions of Muirfield, prepare yourselves for a truly classic golfing experience. The day will unfold over 36 holes of challenging Foursomes golf. That’s right, two rounds of alternate shot, testing not only your individual skill but also your partnership’s synergy and, perhaps, your patience! Remember the golden rule – NO APOLOGIES.

This format, a cornerstone of traditional links golf.

But fear not, for even the most intense competition is punctuated by moments of refined indulgence. After the first 18 holes, we will pause for a traditional Muirfield lunch, complete with fine wine. This is where the true spirit of the event shines – a chance to relax, recount your morning’s triumphs (and tribulations), and enjoy excellent company. And yes, gentlemen, in keeping with Muirfield’s esteemed customs, suits and ties are required – unless you want the fines master to have his eyes fixated on you!

Think of it as a brief, stylish interlude before you return to the links to conquer the remaining 18 holes.

Once the final putt has dropped and the scores are tallied, we’ll gather for a relaxed prize-giving and drinks afterwards.

So, save the date and keep a keen eye on our upcoming communications.

Get ready, St Francis Links members – they’ve decreed a rematch!
Remember that glorious Friday when we hosted our “Good Neighbours” from Humewood?

The sun was shining, the course was pristine, and our team delivered an absolutely dominant display, securing a resounding 14-2 victory! It was a spectacle, a celebration of golf, and a testament to the incredible talent we have here at St Francis Links. We extend a huge thank you to the Humewood management team – Brendon Timm, Dylan Reid, Wiele Rademeyer, and Hugo Maritz (Humewood captain) – for their sportsmanship and for making the initial event such a success.

Now, mark your calendars for October 31st, because we’re heading to Humewood for the return fixture, and let’s just say they’ll be looking for revenge!

While we might have suggested they’d need a “Miracle at Medinah” type comeback, we know they’ll be bringing their A-game on their home turf. This is more than just a golf match; it’s a chance to renew friendly rivalries, enjoy another fantastic day on a links course, and show them that our victory wasn’t a fluke! Let’s rally our support and cheer on our St Francis Links team as they aim to continue their winning streak. Get ready for another thrilling chapter in the “Battle of Links Courses”!

A Golfing Life
What a way to
STAY ACTIVE
Research tells us that work pressure, business travel and smartphones are dramatically reducing the amount of time we invest in social interaction. The same research correlates that decline with the increase in stress, tension and depression.
Play more golf. Make more friends. Take part in more social events. Hitting golf balls with friends who enjoy the moment with you, is living. You should be living.
If you’re struggling to find someone to play golf with at a particular time, then get hold of us and we’ll make some introductions.
If you’re not getting as much enjoyment as you could from the game, you don’t have to just grin and bear it. Make an improvement. We can help.
A healthier,
HAPPIER YOU
Golf can be a positive force in your life, helping you stay healthy while giving you many enjoyable experiences along the way.
