The Japanese always show respect!
Hideki Matsuyama’s caddie added a tiny moment that made a big impression in Matsuyama’s historic Master’s victory on Sunday.
After Matsuyama sank his final putt to become the first Japanese man to win a major golf championship, caddie Shota Hayafuji removed his cap and bowed toward the course.
That was spontaneous and very classy. Hideki was the low amateur at The Masters 10 years ago after qualifying in a tournament that was established through Masters’s sponsorship. The Asian Amateur champion went on to win the silver medal the same year Charl Schwartzel won the green jacket.
On a sad note, the Player sons are at it again – I only hope Mr Player was not a part of their latest antics because I have too much respect for him. Wayne, however, saw fit to do some marketing while the cameras were focused on the Honorary Starter, Lee Elder. There he was holding a sleeve of balls on camera, sharing Dad’s newest sponsor. Where there is honour there is also shame!
Three Cheers for Hideki – another great and deserving champion.
New Event – The Men’s and Ladies’ Stableford Championships
Last year the schedule was disrupted by C19 and, for the first time, the Men’s and Ladies’ Champs were played separately. Two developments came from it. Very few ladies played in the Stableford or the Medal, yet a month ago they pulled 24 ladies on the day. This year we want to see our ladies play in both the Stableford and the Medal, so we’ve separated them. The Medal (major) for ladies will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, 27 and 28 April with Stableford for men and ladies played on Saturday and Sunday, 1 and 2 May.
Playing the Men’s Champs in December was so well represented, we made the decision to play the Medal then again, this year with 3 Divisions.
Let’s call this a test. Your support will determine the road forward. We are trying the new format because it was suggested by a member. The Club will sponsor the Stableford Championships and the Medal Championships will continue as they have in the past, with fees to include prizes and lunch.
The Club is growing by the month, please support our special events!

Team member of the Week: Bruwilda Rossouw
My name is Bruwilda Rossouw and I have been part of the Links Family since 2017. I am the F&B Administrator, responsible mostly for purchasing and data capturing in the department. What I love most about my job is that every day comes with its own set of challenges and that keep me going. I have been in the hospitality industry since the day I made my career choice after matric to go and study further and have not looked back once.
I come from a God Fearing, loving, caring family. I am the middle child of 3 (older sister and younger brother). My mom is a retired teacher and my late father was in the construction business. To summarize me I always put others needs before mine, energetic, always there to lend a helping hand where needed and always willing to learn new things.
My favourite Bible verse and also my motivation for every day: Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Thank you all for caring about your course – #leading the way
