Battle of the sexes – Ladies come first
Le Cock Trophy Ladies versus Gentlemen
from Thinus
The course setup was done to ensure a fair match between the Ladies and Gentlemen. The pin did not go to the top green on the 4th hole, a strategic advantage that was not used by the male staff members. Weather conditions on Saturday were one of those glory days, one that will be remembered, until the wind comes again on Wednesday.
The course played long as there was no assistance from the wind and kept everyone honest with regards to how far they actually hit the ball. Sally Nienaber joined Christo Krugel as the Starters of the day, Christo explained the rules, told some jokes and Sally handed each man a shot of Jagermeister, a little gift from the Ladies with a few words of encouragement.
In the first match out at 7h40 Elmarie Maarschalk and Tamara Webster led the ladies from the front racking up 45 betterball points. They were also the highest scoring pair for the Ladies. Craig Nel and Christo van Loggerenberg were the unlucky men on the receiving end of the very difficult match. The second group out Sandy Cunningham and Madeleine Barry did not take it easy on the men either coming in with 43 points. The trend was set and the predicted win for the Ladies looked very likely.
Unfortunately, the scoring of the men did not improve, a special mention to Danie Cronje and Rui Das Neves with a very solid 43 points. The highlight of the day came from the team of David Honeyball and last years Order of Merit winner, Hein Spangenberg. They didn’t look for any balls, dovetailed like identical twins and made the game look very easy. 47 Points, well-done, Gentlemen.
Prizegiving was opened by 3 short little funny golf videos and it set the mood for a very friendly presentation. The final result was that the Ladies won the Inaugural Le Cock Trophy with an average score of 39.13. The men could only combine for an average score of 37.64. This gives the Ladies bragging rights for the year.
Special thank you to the Golf Shop for donating the prizes for best ladies and best men and Sally Nienaber for organizing the event and sponsoring the nearest to the pin prizes. Sandra Marais generously sponsored the Trophy, thank you very much.

Fishing Champion and Champions
Members Grant Bowen, Dirk Ellis, Jr and Cassie Lotter and friend, SR Ferreira competed in the 2019 Offshore Classic in Gordon’s Bay. They didn’t arrive with the biggest boat or the latest technology but with only hours to spare, Grant landed a 1,77m, 88kg Yellowfin Tuna. That was the biggest in the tournament. The boys also bought themselves (under the radar) for R4000 in the pre-tournament Calcutta; by winning the tournament for the best catch, they earned a cool R177 000! Dirkie’s boat Geelstert is aptly named after their successful catch.
