the results are amazing!
St Francis Links played host to the first-ever, Coastal vs Inland Challenge. The Ryder Cup format, played over three days, featured the country’s best Mid-Amateurs and Senior Amateurs. Their performances on the course were amazing, to say the least.
In one fourball match, the Coastal players won two and one. On the 17th green, they finished on -10 for the day. The Inlanders were -8! In Foursomes play, one team was -5 when they won!
Fourball match-
Foursomes match-
In benign conditions on Day 1, the Inlanders should have relished the calm. But it was the Coastal boys who came out flying, taking 3 1/2 out of 4 in the morning and the same in the afternoon. Ouch! The beat went on in Day 2 play. The Coastal Boys walked over the Inlanders again by score. The matches however were all close. With the overall victory story nearly complete, all the Coastal boys needed was one victory in the Singles. That victory came in the first match of the Day. BUT, it was the story of the day. Clive Palm aced the 17th to win two and one and the Inlanders were off. No one laid down and the matches were played brilliantly again with the Inlanders taking the last seven games.
Final score – Coastals 13, Inlanders 11 – the real winner – GOLF at its best (at the best).
Ladies’ Member-Member!
It all came down to a single point and that point allowed Izzy Obray and Debbie McCracken to get their names on the Honours Board. Their 41 points nipped Sally Nienaber and Beth Jaskolski’s 40. Former champions, Kay Sadler and Joan Pratt came third. Pink pins, cups and flags -just for the ladies!

Love is in the Air!
When the forecast calls for a chance of rain, we always make a plan. In this case, last weekends wedding was also on the same day as the Coastal vs Inland Challenge and the Ladies’ Member-Member Partnership. The ladies were set up in the bar, the golfers were set up in the restaurant and the wedding was set up on the lawn upstairs and down. In the end, the bride and groom and their friends were treated to an outdoor venue.

- Move indoors
- Back outdoors, Phew!
