We celebrated The Masters in our first-ever Members Masters event! |
|
First day was: Par 3 Course 9 holes, Shotgun start at 15h00 |
IPS, 95% Handicap Conversion
Barry Davis took the outright lead after the first day!
We had a fun shootout competition after the Par 3 from the top terrace for some great prizesUnbelievably! Barry Davis on top form also took this home! Getting him a Masters-themed green shirt! Looking smart on the final day.
At the shootout, we were serving some lovely Azaleas! (Traditional masters themed drink) and Pimento Cheese Sandwiches! Amazing! |
For the Saturday – Round 2 – Competition format: Individual Stableford 95% |
The draw for the second day was seeded according to the position in the field after the first round. Keeping the top competitors together!
Fitch and Leeds jumped in and gave our competitors a lovely Gin and Tonic as they walked off the golf course. It was a fiercely competitive weekend. Brett Meyer won with just one point! Wow! Well done, Brett! We are happy that the jacket fit so perfectly!
A big thank you to Darren Pienaar and Holborn for the first-ever St Francis Links Masters Tournament!
Just the start of something very big! |
Peter Schlebusch (father of “Jeff Jr” as Andrew Schlebusch has been known… and Club Captain at River Club) visited us and commented… |

Andrew, Peter, Jeff, and James |
Good morning, Jeff. I hope that you and Liezl are doing great. It was our pleasure to meet you both yesterday. Thank you so so much for a thoroughly enjoyable and fun round of golf yesterday. It was wonderful to spend time with you and play the magnificent St Francis Links. We were super impressed with the golf course and the whole guest experience. Thank you so much for your warm and generous hospitality!! It is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for looking after Andrew at the Links. It is so good to see how he is enjoying working there and is loving the people he works with and the members. Have a great day. I look forward to seeing you again soon – either at The Links or River Club.
Warm regards. Peter Schlebusch. |
A new walkway is being constructed for the safety of pedestrians as they walk to and from the Range area. The mix we use for our paths on the course cannot be provided by the supplier at present so we are waiting for a new supply. Improvements on the estate just keep coming.

Over time, the Westerlies and Easterlies reshape the bunkers on our course. We have rebuilt many bunkers over time to restore them to their original shapes and playing condition. Most recently, we dropped the front of the greenside ninth, the long driving bunker on the sixth, deleted bunkers on the first and fifth (out of play), reduced the face of the bunkers on the fifth and sixth, restructured the bunkers on the 15th and softened the bunkers on the thirteenth. This week, we tackled the fairway bunkers on the left of the 11th and Charl and his team did A BRILLIANT JOB of shaping them. This improves the eye-line to the green and offers more forgiveness to the drive drifting left. |

Beautifully reshaped, sodded and planted! |

Practice with purpose |
|
Mastering up and downs |
|
Most amateur golfers hit less than half of greens in regulation, so getting up and down consistently is invaluable. Practice games are an excellent way to develop those scrambling skills. |
Have you tried the Par 18 Challenge? |
Set down nine balls at different spots around the practice green and try to get each one up and down in two shots. The closer you get to par 18 on this challenge, the more shots you’ll see off your scorecard. |
|
This is a really good benchmarking skills test that’s well worth challenging yourself with at least once a month. |
|
|
Make sure you’re working on the right things in practice. |
