No fog on Boetie’s headlights!
This year’s Club Championships were delayed by fog – who would’ve guessed after the forecast showed beautiful weather for the weekend. Then after we got everyone on the course, it remained a bit of a concern. James Bredenkamp said that they couldn’t see the 14th green only to find all three of their balls on the green – maybe that was a good thing! When it all lifted, the day’s weather was near perfect.
The scoring for this year’s Champs was the best ever with Boetie Zietsman leading the way, shooting 74 and 72=146, with the runner-up, Johan Ferreira (righty) coming close with rounds of 75 and 74=149. Pieter, Boetie’s son made the biggest comeback after starting Day 2, 7-over after 5 holes and finishing on 73 and 150 after coming back with 6 birdies. Brett Wilson-Jones charged into contention and capture the Men’s Overall Nett with his 78 (nett 68) on Sunday! The legend, Dr Lynn Slogrove left the others behind as she followed her recent Senior’s Championship (10 in 15 years) with another fine performance. Rita Duplessis claimed the Nett Prize after giving Lynn a good run on Day 1. ST Maarschalk relied on his fine 39 pts on Day 1 to hold off Chris Lessing in the Stableford Division with Lynn McMillan claiming first in the Ladies’ Stableford.

Dear Jeff, Thinus and all SF Links staff
What a great championship you hosted over the weekend. There were so many special touches which I really appreciate.
Some include: the Championship labels on the wine bottles were special, the champagne for the ladies post-tournament was extra-special, and my winner’s golf bag with the SF Links Champion inscribed was amazing – very, very special. I shall use it with pride. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And Jeff, your supportive words and actions actually bring tears to my eyes whenever I ponder over them.
It is truly a privilege to be part of your wonderful club. You and your staff always go out of your way to spoil your members. It does not go unnoticed.
With huge thanks and appreciation.
Lynn

Hi Jeff …
Thank you for your email. This is the first time have received an email like this. Add to that the welcome on the tee box as well as the friendliness of yourself and the staff around you it was indeed a very unique experience. Then we had Debbie whose motherly touch added a very homely feel at the lodge. Our biggest regret was not playing the course more times. We will be back when we can play three games in a row for the weekend. I don’t think we had anyone who had an exceptional round, nonetheless, everyone hailed the course as spectacular. It is indeed a very special place.
Thank you once again.
Regards
