Valentine’s Golf
We were thrilled to announce that our Valentine’s Day experience was completely full!

The event kicked off with a shotgun start at 14h00, featuring nine holes on the front nine of our beautiful par-3 course. Following the round, all participants were treated to light snacks.  Entry to this exciting competition was completely free!

The competition featured two divisions:

Golfer/Golfer Division (Betterball Stableford 85% Handicap) – This division was won by the dynamic duo of Elmarie Maarschalk and ST Maarschalk.

Golfer/Non-Golfer Division – In this unique format, one golfer plays until they reach the green while their non-golfing partner putts out. The winners in this division were Lissa Dyer and Norman Dyer.

The pictures reflect how geared and ready members were for this event – dressing up in bright colours and heart-shaped patterns.

As the Valentine’s Day competition wrapped up, our Hospitality Manager and Chef, Pieter Germishuys, presented a dinner menu that left all patrons in awe.

Sophisticated and minimalistic are words to describe this year’s Valentine’s dinner themed “A Night Out Under the Stars”.

Starting with Sun-blushed Tomato Arancini Balls drizzled with a Homemade Basil and Roasted Garlic Pesto, moving onto the main course that offered a choice of Slow-Braised Lamb Shank or Fillet of Sole, ending with a definite show-stopping dessert that comprised of a Chocolate & Hazelnut Mousse Cake topped with petals of pure Love and pink candy floss.

To accompany this stunning menu we enjoyed Sparkling Wine with Cherries and Mint Leaves on arrival and a red carpet entrance.

The entertainment for the evening was saxophonist and vocalist James van der Merwe who blew everyone away with his pure voice and talented skill. It was indeed a world-class performance.

The front-of-house staff, waiters, and supervisors contributed to a memorable evening, all exceeding the guests’ expectations.

This was the first event we have hosted on the Halfway Deli veranda, but certainly not the last!

Ladies Clinics keep on improving our golfers!
The recent Ladies Golf Clinic focused on two critical aspects of the golf swing: the lever system and the wrist hinge. The lever system in golf refers to how different parts of the body work together to create a powerful and efficient swing. By understanding this system, golfers can maximise their potential for distance and accuracy.

The wrist hinge is another vital component that allows for better control over the club during the swing. An effective wrist hinge helps in generating clubhead speed while maintaining proper alignment and balance throughout the swing. This technique not only enhances power but also contributes to improved consistency in ball striking.

Upcoming Sessions Focus: Looking ahead, the next sessions will shift focus towards the short game, which is crucial for lowering scores on the course. The clinic will cover:

Chipping vs. Pitching:
Chipping involves making low, controlled shots that roll out towards the hole, typically used when you are close to the green but not on it.

Pitching requires a higher trajectory with more loft, allowing for a softer landing on the green. Understanding these subtle differences is essential for effective short game play.

Putting Basics:
The upcoming sessions will also delve into putting fundamentals, emphasizing how to keep the clubface square through impact. A square clubface at impact is critical for ensuring that putts travel on the intended line toward the hole.

By focusing on these areas, participants can expect to enhance their overall performance on the course significantly.

Playing in the sand!
Final outcome after the 18th bunker project to make the bunkers more visible from the fairway. This buildup of sand was caused by wind and with the grass growing over the windblown sand. Eventually a big mound was created which blocked the bunker view from the fairway.
Cobra DS Adapt Fitting Day at St Francis Links
St Francis Links will host the Cobra DS Adapt Fitting Day on 28 February (09h00 to 15h00) featuring the Cobra Tour fitting truck.

Attendees will have the opportunity to utilize advanced technology, specifically the revolutionary TrackMan system, which provides precise data on swing mechanics and ball flight.

Personalised club fitting is a key highlight of this fitting day, with the ability for participants to receive a custom club fitting tailored to their individual specifications.

The process involves assessing each golfer’s swing characteristics and preferences, allowing for a bespoke set of clubs to be built on-site.

This means that attendees can walk away with a brand new set of clubs by the end of the day, perfectly suited to their unique playing style.

The incorporation of TrackMan technology is significant in this fitting process.

TrackMan uses radar technology to capture detailed metrics about a golfer’s swing and ball trajectory. This data helps fitters make informed decisions about club specifications such as shaft length, flex, loft, and lie angle.

We hope to see you on the range!

Be smarter
MAKE BETTER  decisions
You’ve got 140 metres to the hole. No wind. Level all the way. Which club are you taking?
How do you perform with that club? How wide of the target will you be with your largest slice / push or hook / pull? On average, how wide will you be? On ‘average’ (not the perfect strike), how far do you hit the club you’ve chosen?

Understanding this data, and appreciating that golf is a game of misses, provides us with two very important lessons:

1.  We should NOT approach shot selection with the expectation of perfection. We should think about the impact of our misses when choosing the club and the target we will aim for.
2.    To get more fulfilment from your development, forget about perfection. Work on reducing the size of the misses in your round. Reduce slightly the impact of a less-than-perfect shot shape. Improve slightly your consistency of strike, so you come up a little less short on your worst shot.
These two lessons could be the stepping stones to more enjoyment from your next rounds of golf.
A MEMORABLE score
Turn these stepping stones into a new achievement. A new low score. Think your way to that new low with better choices.
Play more golf. Only smarter
It’s your technique
Getting your golf ball to inside of 2 metres from the hole as quickly as possible, from any distance 70 metres and in, could almost be described as the game of golf. That area of the game will dominate your scorecard. That’s why we’re very excited about the design of the new Cleveland RTZ wedges.

There are grind-specific leading edges designed to make it easier to hit clean, controlled wedge shots.

The FULL sole has the roundest leading edge, to prevent chunking on steeper swings. Cleaner contact. More consistency.
The MID sole offers a slightly less round edge. That means you can lay the club open or closed a little and create clean contact, especially if you have a slightly shallower angle of attack.
LOW soles have the sharpest leading edges. They will work best for those golfers, usually the most consistent short-game players, who have a shallower angle of attack.
Get personal
There is also an ADAPT grind that has been designed to provide the most versatility in shot-making around the green. All of this design gives us the ability to match you to a wedge that fits your swing and the game you want to play. These are exceptional wedges that require a conversation.
