Graeme Whale Shared his story about his beautiful Jemma!
I have known Graeme Whale as a fellow professional, as a friend and as a great teacher and player. He continues to dedicate his life to making the great game of golf available to all who want to try it. He teaches day and now at night, working with schools, travelling to small clubs in the Cape, creating fun events and creating champions. He IS a credit to the game. I have, over the years, participated in golf days organized by his and my friends, Titch and Jackie Moore benefiting his daughter, Jemma and lately, Jemma’s chosen charities.
Graeme’s recent newsletter thanked those who really helped Jemma on her life journey so far.
I want to share it.

From time to time, I share my life with you
Putting the spotlight on my
daughter, Jemma (by Graeme)
Jemma is finishing her school life at St Dominic’s Priory. She has always been different. I guess it’s because of the challenges she has been given. I have never doubted her abilities. Sometimes I just thought the world wasn’t ready for such a precious soul.
She amazed me again today. After +- two years of online school (bloody Covid), she finished 3rd in Grade 12. 1st in English, 1st in Maths Literacy.
I have tried to comprehend this. Even tried to understand it (with and without the help of beer). I am grateful beyond words to the many beautiful souls who have made this possible.
To Titch and Jackie:
Where would we be? You gave my daughter a reason to believe, to try. She loved the golf day. Once a year she is a princess, the centre of attention. It gave her the courage to go be her. Some of my best memories are of those nights.
To Joos EP Skydivers:
What a day. She did that tandem jump. It changed her life forever. She felt like a winner. She believed in her life.
To Sam at Montessori:
You embraced her and treated her like everyone else. She loved being at your school. She thrived on the community you built.
To St Dominic’s Priory:
You turned my little girl into something special. You showed her that she can. You gave her the love and the opportunity she needed to grow.
To her tutors Claire, Kim and Sarah:
You girls listened to her talk (and she can talk) and you still got the work done on time. You gave her the self-belief to dream big!
To her surgeon – Dr Potgieter:
Thank you for making her believe in you.
To my family:
You continue to give Jemma just the right amount of love, with the right amount of “tough love” to help her achieve her goals. All of you rock! We would be nowhere without you (that includes the cousins). We would not be where we are now.
On the way home from the hospital two days after she was born, she was at PEGC. She smiled as she was passed from person to person (our ladies section does like a baby). It’s been her second home.
To all of you in Port Elizabeth, you know what you did, you know how you helped, you helped her believe. You gave her love.
My little girl will leave soon. She is already a little lady. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Getting the course READY (means doing very little)
With the news of the PGA Championship coming so late, one would think we would have to hustle up a plan to get the course ready. But, let’s be real, the course is ALWAYS ready. What Charl has done is to lower the “closely mown” (fairways) cutting heights a little, given the primary rough a good trim and soon will start the process of “burning” in the fairway lines for good TV, simply by mowing in the same planned directions on each hole. Thursdays and Friday, the first two rounds, will be recorded with results and footage on Supersport (213). The back nine will be featured with the live Saturday and Sunday coverage (Supersport 213) and fed to other sports networks around the world!

Number 2 – “Which Way”
Golfers of the week!
October 9 – Alliance three to count – David Honeyball, Pierre Potgieter, Ryan Coesens and Hein Spangenberg
13 October – Warwick Wealth – 4BBB – Norman Pretorius and Percy Owen
14 October – Windhoek Pairs (Regional Finals) – Ronnie Nienaber and Percy Owen
Highlights
Pierre Potgieter aced the top green at four on a windy Saturday. What is most amazing is the fact that they saw the ball go in – not from the tee, but as they walked to the green! From 6 inches, the wind kicked and moved the ball to the hole. Ronnie, also playing in a perky westerly, found the hole on 17. R20 got him R20 000! He and Percy later received 1st prize for the day. The wind is your friend…the wind is your friend!
- Top Green at 4
- R20 000 shot
- Off to Pearl Valley!
