We are very proud of our local Football Club. The team puts in 6 hours of training per week and they have been promoted to the Castle Regional League for the Cacadu District.
St Francis Links Football Club, lead by Team Manager Danisile Mhlabeni, First Assistant Course Superintendent at St Francis Links won the Lithalethu Premier Tournament this past weekend. The tournament started in Hankey on the 23rd of June. The SFLFC won their match against Loerie Brazil Football Club with a score of 2-1. On Sunday the 24th of June they played two matches in Humansdorp. The first match was against a Jeffrey’s Bay Club called Happy People. The Links team won in a penalty shootout 4-2. Their second match of the day was played against a local team of Humansdorp, Super Eagles. This semi final match was a great game, and our team were victorious 1-0.
On Sunday, 1 July the Final was held in Humansdorp and the team played against Black Vultures. The team captain of the match was Noge Bongwa. He is a lawn mower operator and driver of the tractor that collects the refuse on the estate. The full-time score was 3-3 and the match went to a penalty shootout. Our team came out on top 5-4 with every player scoring his goal in the shootout.
The winning team won R4000 and all the team members received a gold medal. We are very proud of the team. They practice with a purpose, uplift the community through sport and lead by example. Instead of waisting their off time, they spend it on the football field and for that we salute and thank you.
