Visit your own beautiful country
Liezl and I, as have many of you, visited the West Coast of South Africa while we were closed for Spring Programme. we traveled 3500kms and stayed on farms, guest houses and with friends. We called the first part of our trip (jokingly) “the trip to everywhere where we almost saw nothing”. Fortunately, that was only when we went to Sutherland to see the stars (cloudy and closed) and Nieuwoudville Papkuilsfontein Guest Farm (raining) and the nearby waterfall (to be heard but not seen)!
- I could hear you!
- Please open in front of our cabin
- SALT, the Southern African Large Telescope at the South African Astronomic Observatory in Sutherland, Northen Cape Province, South Africa.
But not even clouds, rain or gravel roads could dampen our spirits or detract from our adventure. The scenery from Ladismith to Paternoster and Montagu to Stilbaai was fantastic. The food and drink along the way maintained my fuller figure and the people were all generous and pleased to be assisting and serving guests.
Here are some of the flowers we saw along the way. I might add that a stop in Darling at their Brewery with a sampler tray and Jalapenó poppers should be included!
Now, get yourselves into our flowers on offer – because a trip around the estate may just save you the time and effort! We not only offer spring flowers, we display the flora all year round!
Please, please, please do your part!
New Event for the Ladies! The Colony LYNX Challenge!
It is not envisioned that any comp fee will be payable for participation
Local entrepreneur, John Hammond, is leading the way again with a very generous ladies’ sponsorship and new event. The soon-to-be-open Colony – Tastes of Africa will be just that, a new restaurant fusing an African flair into their cuisine. John has secured the services of one of Cape Town’s top chef’s to lead the way!
- Our aim is to sponsor the events on an annual cycle, it is not envisioned that any CLC games will be played during peak season months of December and January.
- This project is confirmed for the first three months and is subject to review to ensure the appeal of the challenge and that our shared objectives are being delivered. We will evaluate and review that sharing of prizes is being achieved and the event is creating enthusiasm in participants and attracting others to join in.
- As the challenge is about developing team spirit a scoring model that will ensure that the same people do not win all the prizes would be ideal. This is an important part of the prize donations and ongoing sponsorship
- We look for your input on how best to achieve this goal, in our previous sponsored events we used the Nomads scoring model.
We look forward to working with the Ladies of St Francis Links and to developing a class-leading event the “Colony Lynx Challenge” on the first Tuesday of each month, starting 7th September 2021. We will continue to work with the committee to enhance the offer and where required change elements driven by lessons learned and feedback from participants. Additional sponsors are being finalized and once confirmed will add additional elements to the challenge.
Colony Lynx Challenge
- There will be one “Colony Ladies Lynx Challenge” game per month on a Tuesday.
- The format will be decided by the Links ladies workgroup in partnership with the club professional and could change every month in a quarter.
- Fun and participation as well as opportunity for different winners in each game is the objective of the sponsorship.
- A cumulative scoring model will be created which rewards participation in all games in the quarter.
Colony Ladies Lynx Prizes are spread over three components
- The monthly game
- The overall Quarter winners
- Lucky prize draws – monthly & quarterly
- The first Colony
- First winners (and Gillian donated her prize back)

Team Member of the Week – Bianca
I started working at The Links in 2007 so I have been here for 14 years, basically part of the furniture already! I am the eldest of 4 children and after losing one of my brothers last year, I now have 1 sister and 1 brother. I am a mother of 3 beautiful girls namely Tamisha (11), Lynnique (7) and Tazlynn (4). We all share our home with my mother and grandmother and are a very close family who loves to spend time together.
I’m working at The Links as a waitress and enjoy what I do … it brings out me and my personality best, hardworking, loyal, kind, and polite. I love to surround myself with people because I am a person’s person. I love to get to know the people and make them feel at home. YES! I AM ALL ABOUT THAT!!!! I like to learn new things because each and every day I know I am just getting better and better! I have also learned over the years to treat my members as royalty and my guests as members. St Francis Links is the place where I want to be, we are one big family!
