Rita Du Plessis Takes the 14th Club Championship

The ladies all missed Dr Lynn Slogrove; the multiple Ladies’ Champion was forced to pull out ill just before the event. As Helen Bridges said she (Lynn) provides the motivation for all the others to play their best. Day ONE may not have produced the best golf, but everyone was closely bunched on the leaderboard. Eventual winner, Rita, was tied with young Izzy Obray after 18 holes. Sally Nienaber was one back and Helen Bridges and Jaunita Gobby, two.

Rita, the veteran, put some distance between her and the rest with an outward 41. Jaunita followed with 42 and Helen with 43, including a two-shot penalty. On the back nine, Rita was solid. Jaunita played under her handicap to take to overall nett prize, with Rita winning the gross and Dita Meulmeester winning the Stableford.

Pieter Zietzman takes another title at The Links

Pieter Zietsman continues to makes us (and his dad) proud as his golf, once again, proved to be better than the rest of the best players in the Eastern Cape. St Francis Links sponsored the event which carries Order of Merit status. It’s called The Trophy and attracts our top players. Pieter has won the EP Champs played here. His outstanding play in perky conditions was enough to win by one shot. Christopher Van Rensburg matched Pieter’s afternoon round, finishing 3rd overall and best nett. Jacques VD Walt also flew our colours taking 2nd nett.

Team Player of the Week

Marvinique has been working as a casual at the Links for the past 5 years. She is a happy and energetic person to be around and to work with, you will see her in Halfway House, serving members and guests as they turn during their game of Golf. She tells more about herself below:

I am 24 years old and a mother of 2 beautiful children, I love spending time with them and bonding with them. I am very big on my family, my children is the one thing in life that motivates me the most. I love dancing and singing, it makes me so happy, I enjoy making a few jokes and seeing people laugh. My biggest dream in life is to be a hardworking mother for my 2 beautiful children and to hopefully start my own business one day!

I love working at the Links! It is a wonderful experience because everyday i get to meet new people from around the country or even the world! I like new challenges and The Links brings that for me! Everyday I learn something new and there is not one day that everything is the same at the Links.

The beautiful 13th

It’s great being busy!

COVID-19 may have smashed on and off the course, but now that we are open, we are flying! On Saturday, we had nearly 140 golfers on the course with no less than 5 different “Road Trippers” in the lineup. I love hosting groups, especially those made up of longtime friends. You simply didn’t see that in America. Here, friends from school, university and business remain friends for years to follow. Many of them reunite annually on the golf course. You know, we say that everyone who comes through our gates are potential new members, ambassadors and returning guests. This weekend past will, once again, prove that to be true. The Golf Team hosted the groups and added the extra splash that made for great memories and happy member hosts. There were shoot-outs on the 4th with drinks at the Sunset lookout points – different and brilliant! Cheers!

Golfers of the Week

Ashley Parker and William Rodgers are settling in as new members, winning the Saturday Competition over the regulars, Danie Cronjé, James Bredenkamp, Norman Pretorius and Lesley Krause. Joe Cloete and Guy Pearson completed the winning fourball as they made a very good 87pts. The runners-up made 86.

On Wednesday, it was a proper “mudder” Keith Simpson who overcame the testing conditions to beat Jacques VD Walt, 37pts to 36pts in the IPS.
