The Men’s Invitational was fully subscribed!

Pre Covid, the Men’s Invitational maxed out at 96 players. This year we had 120 participants with a waiting list! Stirling Olivier and the Re/Max team along with Barry Davis and Kwikelec contributed to the prizes and awards for the event! The weekend was even better when 250 members and friends joined us for the rugby on Saturday afternoon. Load shedding at 17h00 (kickoff) didn’t hurt!

Day One brought in some brilliant scores with the Doug Cornish-Mike Palframan team leading the way on 46! They were followed by Leon Engelbrecht and his partner, Piet Cronjé and Scott Keevy and Adrian Ristow. Dean Lailvoux and Ian Pienaar were the only leaders from Saturday who seemed to wake up strong for the fight. They followed their 44 on Saturday with 42 on Sunday – good enough to take the title! For a number of years now, groups within the tournament have developed, none more known than those who play for the “Draai Kolk” trophy. The group are also known for meeting before the tournament and participating in an annual ritual – the piercing of the left ear. Undaunted by their newfound glitter, Mike Wylie and Piet Swanepoel won the Trophy and came second overall on 85 points. Maybe there is a little something extra that comes with the earring.

After the golf, the rugby, the food and drink, I announced that, with the growing demand for spots in the annual Invitational, next year will still be played over two days BUT with morning and afternoon fields rotating on Friday and Saturday. That’s a great problem to have!

Special Thanks to Harcourts and Marsha Cooper for a great video!
