One of the more difficult decisions to make in golf is when and where to lay up your shot. Instead of laying up far back enough to hit a full shot into the target, we tend to rather hit it as close as possible and deal with the consequences once we get to our ball.
How to hit the perfect pitch shots:
Use your shoulders instead of hands to lift the ball.
To get the feeling of your shoulders making the swing, hold your club out in front of you with your right hand and tuck your right elbow into your body. Open your clubface and turn your shoulders to make the swing. You will notice that your shoulders are controlling the club and not your hands. The hands should be passive during the swing.
Your shoulders and hands work together at the same pace.
Keep your tempo smooth during the swing and always make sure you accelerate through the ball. Visualize where you want the ball to land and make your practice swing at the same tempo as you need to execute the shot.
