Our Year-End Review!

It’s been another amazing year at St Francis Links with our developer selling all of their remaining stands, the HOA purchasing some of these for future growth and more than 50 homes under construction at any one time. We are now nearing 300 homes complete with MORE THAN 80% OF THE ESTATE PERMANENTLY OCCUPIED. Golf rounds, through mostly increased member play, have exceeded 24 000 this year and our average age on the estate (keeping everyone young) is dropping with so many young families choosing St Francis Links for the home to raise their families!

Our Champions
This year in golf, Izzy Obray carried on dominating ladies’ golf, winning the Club Champs and the Member-Member, with Kirsten Viljoen. Others rallied throughout the year, including many new champions with their names going up on the Champion’s Board.  Mathew Baldwin and Rupert Kaminski won the SDC and The PGA Championships respectively, bringing more international recognition to our beautiful Links.
The South African team won the Links Cup (again), our ladies won the League, Izzy and Constantine won the Club Champs with the lowest scores ever and the Men took Le Trophee Du Coq.
Fouche Swart and Leon Pieterse won the Men’s Invitational while Lynn Slogrove and Nadine De Ridder led the ladies in their Invitational. Jordan Bendeman captured the Par-3 in a three-way playoff and makes a hole-in-one en route! Sue Cogswell took the Ladies’ title. Izzy Obray and Kirsten Viljoen won the Ladies’ Member-Member by a shot and Vlam Michau and Mike Farrer came out on top in the Men’s Member-Member.
Charity was the winner again this year as HOSPICE benefitted from the two-days of Woodlands Dairy; The Ernie (Autism) Charities were rewarded handsomely; Parkrun exceeded 400 runs; The Bokke raised the Webb Ellis Trophy; our Madiba Day donation to the local community was super special with many on the estate participating and the Europeans outclassed the Americans again!

It’s not always only about golf!

Homes and more homes grace our beautiful estate
Homebuilding is taking place on nearly every road on the estate. Great designs and beautiful gardens add the perfect accent. Our thanks to our Estate’s consulting architect Philip Jankes, as well as Chris Roberts, Tim Elliott, Neil Mulder, Rose Rock, Brett Wilson-Jones, Liezl Clause and Kevern Burger assisted by Eugenie “the Machinie” Burger who all contributed to the smooth sailing of the planning department and reviews!

Our new Captains lead the way forward! Thank you, Ronnie, and Sally!
We would like to thank our recently retired captains, Ronnie and Sally Nienaber for their considerable time spent and dedication committed to growing our great club. Their weekly updates and monthly meetings helped to define and refine our schedules and events. Ronnie and Sally set the bar high as they also welcomed new golfers to the game and made newcomers and veterans feel like part of our real community.
Our first meeting of the captain’s and the professionals took place on the 12th of December to outline schedules and structures for the way forward.

The Tuesday Ladies Group donates gifts!
The local Sea Vista children benefitted from a trip from Santa with gifts donated by the Links ladies. The smiles tell it all! What a special community of Links ladies – thank you to all who brought joy!

 Make a Christmas wish…
Imagine the perfect set of gifts under your Christmas tree this year: solid square contact, sinking more putts, or hitting it further off the tee! Let us know which gift you would like to unwrap this Christmas, and remember, we can help you make your wish a reality.
I wish for…

More than a fitting
It’s closer to the pin that counts
Last week we described how your grip size and your lie angles can impact on your performance. If you missed that, you can read it now.

If we mention a golf shaft, most golfers think we’re going to talk about how much distance we can add with the right shaft. We can add distance, but with your irons, we’re probably more concerned with accuracy and the angle of descent on your approach shots (to give them stopping power).

If your iron shaft is too flexible, then you’re going to have a dispersion pattern that’s all over the place. Every shot is a surprise!
A shaft that is too stiff will almost certainly have you fighting a fade that can become a slice or sometimes a pull. Again, you’re not sure whether to aim left or right.
“Also be aware of the impact a shaft length can have on your ability to square the face at impact with the sole parallel to the turf. Accuracy can be significantly reduced by the wrong shaft length. Is it sensible that golfers who have a variation in height of sometimes as much as 15 cm (and even more) should play with the same length shaft?”
The gift we can give you
We want to change the experience with your irons out on the golf course. We coach and we ‘fit’. It’s what we’re trained to do. Cameras and technology make it easier than ever for us to diagnose a challenge. From there the right fitting: grip size, lie angles, shaft length, shaft type and flex; allows us to make it as easy as possible for you to hit better golf shots.

For your golf ball
Fill a stocking
Every great Christmas needs a special gift (even if you buy it for yourself).

And every great golf ball needs a great playing partner.

The beauty of the Srixon ZX Range is that there’s a match for the game you play.
The ZX7 MKII has minimal offset, narrow sole, short blade, and thin topline. The best ball strikers in the club will enjoy these.
The ZX5 MKII offers good ball strikers a little more consistency and a little more length.
Maximised forgiveness in a good-looking iron offering the confidence of a longer blade length and thicker topline in the ZX4 MKII irons.
Can we help?
Finding you the best game for your swing is our job. We fit. We coach. We connect. We care.
