Michael makes it 3!

If you weren’t as nice a guy as Chris Van Rensburg is, you probably would be smarting a bit after Michael Buckham’s 3rd triumph in a row. Leading with 4 to play, Chris dropped a shot at 15 and Michael birdied – all square. 17 proved pivotal when a dampened apron on the top held both of their tee shots on the top,m making their approaches to a shallow pin very difficult. Michael, playing first, his shot into the flagstick, with his ball stopping a couple of feet away. Chris was not so lucky when the severe slope moved his ball away to some 8 feet. His miss and Michael’s approach to 18 into the wind sealed victory again for the Cape Town and Steenberg based golfer. Michael’s words at the Prizegiving displayed class.

Gary DeBruin birdied 17 and held on at 18 to steal the overall net by one shot over Ernest Bendeman and others. He was funny to watch on the 18th as he had done the math and knew it was close. Getting your name on the Champions Board is nearly as good as having a Fitch and Leeds tonic with your favourite gin!

The Ladies were next!

Izzy Obray was playing in her 2nd Club Champs and was paired with the legend, Dr Lynn Slogrove and former Champion, Helen Bridges. Lynn, a 20+ Champion at Humewood, St Francis Links and St Francis Bay did not have her best day, but Izzy and Helen did. Izzy fired a 79 and Helen and 84 in the breeze. The final round saw the girls off in two-balls from 7h30 in an effort to get in before the expected gale-force weather predicted. But the wind did play its part, testing the players early. Izzy WINS!  Helen claimed the overall Nett. Lesley Fisher won the Bronze Division Gross and Elmarie Maarschalk, the Nett. Bimpie Olivier took the IPS!

Dear Thinus and Jeff

We just wanted to say a big thank you from the Sparrow family for making our golf day so special.
John and Gary have the best golf round of their lives and Gary (9) makes it the whole 18 holes with the same ball, a feat shared by few I’m sure!

The weather was perfect and the hospitality welcoming. Gary slept with his Jack Nicklaus Big Bear St Francis Link cap 🧢. The only thing he bought with his pocket money. John (11)  carries his St. Francis Links ball marker everywhere he goes.

You have found two more fans who will forever have the greatest golf day entrenched in their young minds as well as a father who has created everlasting memories.
I guess for you it’s just another day in the office but for our family, it was one of the greatest days of our lives.

Thanks again.

David, Tracy, John and Gary Sparrow.

Isaac’s SON graduates from UCT with honours!

Isaac Woni is our soft-spoken man at The Range, always friendly, always polite. Lynn Slogrove shared a story with me about his son, Trevinsky. The proud father was telling her that his son had just graduated with a degree in Physiotherapy. Well done!
