A record R241 000 raised at the Food and Wine-Paired Evening
Village Square Super Spar and the Food and Beverage Team worked together in presenting a great meal that was accompanied by wines presented by TOPS. The 220 people in attendance were also treated to a night of magic produced by Brendon Peel He was as well-received as was the fine dinner produced by our team using the products provided by our Village Square Super Spar. This partnership between ourselves and the Super Spar has now been working for years benefiting our local NSRI and Station 21. The crew were the servers on the evening and in attendance when the check for R241 000 was handed over.
Jo Brown was again the compare on the evening and we, she and I, teamed up for the auction that included a weekend for six people here on the Links in the Janeke home, offered in support of the NSRI. Their beautiful home over-looking the 6th hole will be the base for a weekend of activities that I kept embellishing on the night. Thanks Chef for contributing your time and skills for a cooking class and dinner and thanks to Aqua Spa for looking after the ladies and thanks to Anita and The Cape St Francis Collection for the boat cruise. Next time I’ll ask before the event!
We have hosted very successful charity events this year, raising more than R1 Million for needy causes! Thanks for your support!
Many, many tributes were paid to the man, Garth Perry, who passed away last week in a tragic accident – none more fitting than the post from his friends at The Kromme Enviro-Trust
St Francis has lost a great champion of the environment. The Kromme Enviro-Trust has lost a member of long standing and passionate belief in doing environmental good.
Garth Perry propagated and grew the indigenous plants and trees that surround us on all sides. We were all his customers and we will all be richer for generations because of the pride he took in what he grew in Bushbuck Garden Indigenous Tree Nursery and Apiary. His plants often adorned podiums and were always present at our special events. His legacy is a green one.
His bee-keeping and honey-harvesting were just other ways that the gentle giant worked with, and not against, the natural environment. We have all enjoyed the fruits of his efforts by consuming his honey in some shape or form.
Garth was amazing with our little eco-kids, and together with Denise, they would host educational outings to his farm for the Kromme Enviro-Trust Eco-kids and St Francis College children. He was always keen and willing to help us to educate our little ones in his areas of interest.
He loved birds and birding, and how he loved to exercise and work in the beauty of this countryside. He captured his love for nature through the beautiful photographs he took.
Garth was a happy man in this little corner of South Africa, and this little corner is all the better for what he gave it.
A great loss to our community. Condolences to Denise, Linda, Ryan and family. RIP Garth.
