…and I’m not kidding!
Everyone can see it; everyone is aware of it, but very few are taking the crisis seriously. Water is being trucked into Hankey and Patensie at a cost of more than R1,4M per month, Humansdorp is next and St Francis Bay is not far behind. Are you doing enough?
In the Clubhouse and Leisure Centre, all faucets and shower heads have flow restricters. All gardens around the Clubhouse and the Leisure Centre use only irrigation water and sparingly. The course only uses irrigation water. Water tanks are used to wash machinery. Borehole water is delivered to building sites and only that water is to be used for building. Home irrigation systems are not to be used at this time. Water deliveries for irrigation have been reduced to 5000 liters bi-weekly.
We should be consuming 12cl per month to avoid higher rates being applied. 70% of our residents use more.
We do produce potable water for consumption. the system that was put in some 2 1/2 years ago can no longer match consumption. We have done our homework and are looking to increase the size of the plant. That costs money. If we cannot control our usage in a drought, how will we manage in normal times?
On behalf of EXCO and the Board, I appeal to all residents and friends who read this newsletter, MAKE A PLAN for yourselves and those around you. IT IS THAT SERIOUS!
We are sending letters to all residents and property owners who are using in excess of 15 cubic liters per month (tariffs increase at 12). There have been cases where consumption has been greater than 30 cubic liters per month and these users are being addressed individually.
Installation of our new switch gear for the main electrical intake station
In last year’s budget we allocated and paid R1,4M to upgrade our main electrical intake station with advanced technology. The change was required and will ensure smooth distribution for the estate.

The Bay wins the Pam Golding Annual
The Pam Golding Annual started in 2006 as our opening event at The Links. I have always referred to it as the “handshake with the Bay” as a community tournament. Over the years, the trophy has changed trophy cases, from the Bay to the Links and back. St Francis Bay Golf Club has taken the overall lead 8-7 with a narrow victory – .32pts average. Well done, Captain, Viv Jones (another win for Wales, too!).
Giving Back – this time from our member and friends!
We were met with a wonderful surprise at our last outreach when Jeff Clause arrived, unexpectedly, with a ‘check’ for R10,000 made out to St Francis Animal Rescue.
Jeff Clause with Shena Ruth & Susan Rae Fox
This donation was made by ‘Aloe Aloe’ – on the occasion of the 15th Anniversary of the first Golf Group at the Links.
Our thanks to Colin Higgins and the rest of the team for this very generous contribution to our charity.
The funds will be used for our outreach program which includes feeding dogs, pups, kittens and cats, treating Sea Vista pets for fleas, ticks and parasites, bathing puppies and dogs, medicating and taking wounded or sick dogs and cats to the Humansdorp Veterinary Clinic for medical care.
Sincere and grateful thanks to Jeff Clause, for being such a dedicated and inspirational benefactor to so many of our local charities – and for choosing St Francis Animal Rescue as the recipient of this donation.
Thanks to Jeff Clause and Colin Higgins and ‘Aloe Aloe’ for this amazing ‘gift’ for our charity!
PS. Colin provides us with our Links Cup medals every year! Thanks for that too!

Nazeem Goede
“I have been working at St Francis Links for the past 4 and a half years as one of the drivers transporting the staff to and from work. I also do the maintenance at the Clubhouse. I grew up in Humansdorp and matriculated from HSS in 2011. I received a certificate for IT at East Cape Midlands College. I have 2 beautiful kids (a boy Ethan and a girl Faith as seen with me in the photo). I still live with my parents, my father is a apostle and we grew up to be a God Fearing family, I am only one of 6 children. Being a driver at the Links is a important job because it is my responsibility to make sure the staff gets to work safe and back to their families safely. I am also a big fan of golf and love playing the game, my love for golf grows bigger and bigger by the day! “Expand your thoughts and you will enlarge your world!”
