With Member growth comes Member leadership!

Welcome Sally and Ronnie Nienaber

I have known Sally and Ronnie since day 1 at Fancourt in 1991. I really think it was on my first day that they put on the welcome smiles. They have done it at Fancourt and at their former residence at Mount Edgecombe before moving here five years ago. They define leadership, Sally will tell you like it is and Ronnie will bring it on quietly and effectively. They are both active in the Club and the Club needs their drive and enthusiasm. We will continue to administer golf but we need them to steer the ship. The Club is now experiencing great growth in membership and play, so let’s add the playmakers!

Last week, the Club hosted the ladies at the Leisure Centre to introduce Sally officially and hand out the schedule of events for the year. Sharon, our Golf Coordinator, work directly with Sally and me to provide timely information to all the ladies…and you, our newest members are invited to join in in everything on offer – clinics monthly, at-home days, league play and especially, social games arranged with others who just want to go out and bang the ball.

John Hammond and his restaurant The Colony Club, have embraced ladies’ play with a monthly Tuesday Competition and quarterly awards. John is also looking to add a Friday event. We are privileged to also have The Village Square Super Spar and Pam Golding supporting our last Wednesday of the month, Easylife Kitchens handing out prizes on the third Wednesday and Warwick Wealth on the second Wednesday. We are delighted to retain the support of Selective Lighting and The Fireworks on the first Friday and welcome Stirling Olivier and Remax on the third Friday – Par-3 comps! Please support our sponsors before considering others! See their branding below.

Wayne and Almarie Viljoen and their company, Ecotect Projects have just come on board to support our 1st Wednesday Medal Competitions for ladies and men – and they are coming in BIG! Nine months of competition will culminate with a Champion of Champions event in November

Saturday, we will be hosting the ladies and their friends for a fun day of golf and lunch. Anne Coesens and Bard’au will, once again, be our supporting partners for the day. Thanks for supporting the Ladies’ Invitational (2021). The Invitational 2022 is coming later in the year.

On the Men’s side, we will be hosting a breakfast for the men to introduce Ronnie formally and present the Men’s Golf Schedule for the year. Watch for the mailer!

Our Newest PGA Professional

Meet Ryan DeJonge

I am Ryan de Jongh, from Potchefstroom in the North-West Province. Currently playing off a 0.5 handicap index. Got introduced to the game by my grandfather and uncle, so I started the game at quite a young age. As the years passed, I started to love the game of golf, even more, I played for the school and also participated in a couple of Club Championships and Amateur Tournaments.

After matric, I went to Pretoria where I did my PGA Diploma at Zwartkop Country Club for 3 years. After my diploma, I started my career at the Potchefstroom Country Club where I was working as a Pro Shop Assistant. I am a very passionate golfer and I like the industry of the game a lot. I would also like to transfer my knowledge as far as possible and am willing to help with anything regarding the game of golf, whether it is to coach, talk about equipment or even play golf when there is time.

I am currently an apprentice PGA Pro at St Francis Links. The opportunity came my way and I grabbed it with both hands, also with the thought that I will soon be a fully qualified PGA Pro, and it is a big honour for me to do it with such an amazing team here at the Links.

It has always been a dream for me to pursue my career somewhere along the coast in South Africa, and wow what a place I am at now. It is quite an amendment for me to play in this weather because in the Transvaal area we are not used to this kind of wind and I am hitting the ball quite high (won’t classify this as a bonus anymore) 😄

Then I would just like to thank Jeff, Thinus and Liezl for making this possible for me. I am already enjoying every moment since I came here and believe that it will just get better and even better as time goes by.

Thank you!

…in case you missed it!
