Cool Season FUN!
As we wake up to freasher mornings and earlier sunsets, let’s not refer to this time of year as winter! I knew WINTER where the temperatures woul start falling, the rain would freeze and the roads would become ice-skating rinks before the snow would leave a blanket of white on everything. It would be a child winter wonderland and an adult’s nightmare! Shortly after the snow stopped the “graders” would hit the main roads and the salt and sand trucks would follow – the salt would melt the ice on a good day and in no time the fluffy white cover would be brown and dirty. Golf was out of the question for months!
Not here! We have new and returning events to fill your golfing calendar! Up first is the return of the Inter-Estate Challenge that is played with members representing the follwing Clubs – Pinnacle Point (defending Champions), Mossel Bay, Oubaai, Goose Valley, Pezula and St Francis Links. Because we are traveling the farthest we are also offering to put together additional golf and accommodation before and after the away events. With this event being played the farthest away in Mossel Bay we have booked times for Saturday at Mossel Bay Golf Club around midday. After the success of last year’s competition, the spots for this year’s first game are already filled by the members who played before and those who asked for a place early on. Please don’t be deterred by that as we will need 12 players every month. Thinus has emailed the players with accommodation options and golf availability before and after. Here is the schedule for the year-
Mossel Bay – May 29 (all Sundays)
Oubaai – June 26
Goose Valley – July 31
Simola – August 21
St Francis Links – September 25
Pezula – October 30
Pinnacle Point – November 27
Next up for the Cool Season Schedule is the Betterball Knockout starting on the 1st of June with Men’s and Ladies’ Divisions competing with in a double-elimination format – the Cup and the Plate. Ample time will be allowed for the matches to be played – however, extensions will not be permitted. R100 will cover the entry fee and contribute to the Cups and Plates – Let’s all get into the FUN!
The next Member’s Family Get-togetheris set for Friday, the 10th of June with special activities planned in addition to the Ultimate Par-3 Challenge in the afternoon.
and so much more!
Titch Wins!
This past weekend he won the at the Royal Swazi Sun in an event that promotes “going for it” as birdies were worth 2 points, eagles were 5 points, pars got you nothing and bogeys cost you a point – As Dougie McGuigan said, “You caould make 18 pars and get 0 points whereas 9 birdies and nine drops would get you 9 points – think about it!
Titch did and he set a record scoring 60 points over the 72 holes played – his rounds were – 68, 66, 64, 64 – that’s golfin’ your ball!
