Mother Nature wins the Strokeplay!
60Km winds and sideways rain did not prevent play on Saturday!
Thinus was on 10 tee and I was on the 1st as we teed off the players in the strokeplay section of the EP Champs, Saturday. By the time we finished, the wind and rain had pummeled us as starters but did not stop play. Those boys were more determined to play than I was in starting them – that’s golf at the highest level. I predicted 163 would be the best score for 36 holes and 174 would make the top 32 in qualifying top bracket for the matchplay that started on Sunday.
Saturday morning, the wind howled and light rain came in sideways. I was amazed to see two scores under 80, with one player, Ivan Daniels, making a triple-bogey on 18 for 79. That was amazing golf. 7 players came in at 163 or better after playing in rain and wind in the afternoon. Multiple EP Championships Champion, Seig Human, followed his hard fought 80 in the morning with a tournament best 75 in the afternoon. 1 shot behind was Anile Adam on 156 (79-77) and in 3rd place heading into the matchplay was Naldo Claassens who came back strong with 36 on his 4th nine to finish on 157. Matchplay started on Sunday and will finish next weekend with the quarter-finals and semi-finals on Saturday, the 4th and the 36-hole FINALS on Sunday, the 5th.
