It’s not just golf… let’s fish! |
The first-ever carp fishing competition at St Francis Links took place last Sunday, with the event designed to bring together anglers of all skill levels, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition while promoting the sport of fishing in the region.
Among the participants, Hannes Lourens stood out with an exceptional performance that not only highlighted his skills but also set a high standard for future competitions.
One of the most heart-warming aspects of the event was the strong family presence. Many participants brought their children along, introducing them to the joys of fishing. Families set up picnic areas near the water, creating a festive environment filled with laughter and excitement. Parents took this opportunity to teach their kids about fishing techniques, bait selection, and even conservation practices.
The inaugural carp fishing competition at St Francis Links was more than about catching fish; it was a celebration of family values and community spirit. As plans are already underway for future competitions, there is great anticipation for more non-golf family activities! |

Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting a few things you might not have known about the PGA Championship.
Are you seeing double?
Breaking the mold and thinking out of the box for this event is nothing new for the PGA Championship – especially at windy St Francis Links.
the recent South African PGA Championship held at St Francis Links; a double shotgun start was implemented due to extreme winds forecasted for the final day of play.
The tournament organizers decided to conclude the event a day early by scheduling both the third and fourth rounds on Saturday instead of Sunday. This decision was made to ensure that all players could finish their rounds safely and effectively before the anticipated adverse weather conditions.
During this championship, three-balls were sent off simultaneously from different holes on the course. The third round began at 06:40 AM, while the fourth round had a shotgun start no earlier than 12:00 PM. This structure allowed for efficient play and ensured that all competitors could complete their rounds within daylight hours.
The use of a double shotgun start can significantly affect player performance and strategy. In this case, it created an environment where players had to adapt quickly to changing conditions throughout their rounds. For instance, Rupert Kaminski and Matthew Spacey both excelled during this format, with Kaminski ultimately winning by maintaining composure under pressure. |

How good would it feel to routinely break 90? How great would it feel to break 85? Could the answer be ‘greater consistency’ on the golf course? Small adjustments to your thinking might make a significant impact to your scorecard. |
Break free from the instinctive grab for the driver on the tee. Embrace smarter. Think “ball in play”.
There might be less length but there should be greater reliability and control from your fairway wood, hybrid, or long iron. Shorter? Yes, but you’ll be less likely to be wildly offline though.
On the tee, look for the safe ground away from trouble zones like trees, thick rough, water hazards and the sand. Put the ball in play and ensure a better lie for an easier second shot.

YOUR GOLFING POTENTIAL? |
For many golfers, ‘breaking 85’ means embracing simplicity in game management. A simpler golf swing also supports your goal of keeping the ball in play. If you want to talk about a simpler journey to breaking 85, then talk to us. We’ll start with an assessment and create your personal plan. |

If that’s what you want, then |
This heat map reflects the motivations to play golf amongst golf members from more than 100 golf clubs (those that responded to the survey). What was also interesting was the percentage that stated they wanted to play more golf. |
That’s a lot of golfers who would like to be out on the golf course more often.
I guess the question is, what’s stopping you? What can we do better to help you play more golf? |
A very simple 15 second survey. We’d be very interested in what gets in the way of you playing more golf. |
