Every day, in every way, we are getting better and better
Any time we are published for something accomplished at the Links, which could help others somewhere else or attract new business, we smile from ear to ear! We knew long ago that we needed solutions for water security – potable water, water for building and irrigation. The article below outlines some of the successes we have achieved.
Following that, keep reading as we received more accolades:
Our food and beverage team received top honours for weddings (again) and I included a good story from the PGA Tour in addition to our weekly highlights!

Do you remember caddy “Bones” Mackay?
Bones was the most talkative caddy of all time and carried Phil Mickelson to titles until 2017. Next thing you know, he was still talking, but is now a commentator for TV … a natural. A couple of weeks ago I took notice that he was going to be on the bag for Matthew Fitzpatrick at the Memorial. A week’s leave from the mic??? Guess what? They came third. This week, Justin Thomas returned to No. 1 in the world without his regular caddy, Jimmy Johnson. Guess who carried his bag to victory in Memphis? Bones was called in to replace Jimmy. A third and a first after three years away…Hmmmmm. At 10% of the winnings, he earned $264,000! (R4,5M)
Ladies RULE the Knockout Year
This year we tried something a little different. We had a Ladies’ Knockout and a Mens’ Knockout and then let winners of each Knockout square off against each other. Lynn Slogrove and Margot McGregor were probably the ladies’ favorites to win from the start. Percy Owen and Norman Dyer, on the other hand, pulled a couple of matches back from the death, trailing once by 5 holes with 6 to play and they won then all 6. After turning three down (four down after 5) in the FINAL, the boys found their form and leveled the match on the 14th when Norman holed out from the bunker. But when the last hole was played, the ladies held on to win ONE-UP.
Greensomes – 14 August 2020
Pick your partner and organize your fourball for this fun format. The tee sheet is open and tee times are allocated, please book via the Clubmaster App or phone the Proshop.
Greensomes will take any partnership to its limits. You must be able to put up with the bad shot and create something of nothing. This year the format will prove its value once again, as our members could compete against one another in the alternate shot format. There are no limitations, the only requirement is that both players are members. Male teams, Female teams and Mixed teams, you can choose.
Format: Both players hit tee shots and then the team selects the best tee shot. Whoever’s tee shot is selected, the other team member will play the second shot and they alternate shots until the ball is in the hole.
Handicap: 60 percent of the lower handicap and 40 percent of the higher handicap added together
Defending champions Pete Maskew and John Wilson won with a great score of 39 Points
Golfing Highlights
We welcomed the return of the SuperSpar/Pam Golding Alliance on Wednesday and Gavin Gobby fired his second 82 in a week, formally a 16 from the White tees, and threw in two 2-clubs! He anchored the fine team play with wife Jo, Ronnie and Sally Nienaber. Their 85 points counted them in over the McGregor’s and the Maarschalks. On Saturday, with more brilliant weather, Yan Coesens doubled the ninth and went out in 36 gross. His 76 off 10 helped him carry Hein Spangenberg to 2nd place with 47 points. It wasn’t however good enough to match the amazing 48 points from Neil and Benjamin Strydom. Ant McMillan is enjoying his refurbished clubs with a nett 68.
