Hospitality at the Links is getting Better and Better!
Our Hospitality Manager, Pieter Germishuys is building his team and we are all so excited to welcome two key changemakers to the St Francis Links ranks!

Newly appointed Jacques Bezuidenhout (Front of House Manager) and the lovely and welcoming Selona Breda (Concierge) are ready to meet and exceed your expectations! Look out for them, if they don’t find you first!

As we implement our newly optimised organisational structure, the food and beverage team including Jason, Norah and Rhoshart, all under leadership of Pieter have exciting plans. They are working on improving service with hands-on training. Look out for featured events and the Springbok Rugby fixtures which we will broadcast!  The new seasonal menu offerings in our halfway house and club will be rolled out at the end of August / beginning of September and our magicians in the kitchen will be sharing some quick and easy recipes to add to your favourites list in the coming weeks.

The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat
Jeff’s review of the US Open
Bryson DeChambeauhas morphed from the “different” golfer through bodybuilding and equipment revolution (irons of the same length) to crowd favourite and Major Champion for the 2nd time! This year, while playing on the alternate LIV Tour, he has performed the best of all PGA Professionals in the major championships, finishing 6th at the Masters, 2nd at the PGA Championship and winning at the US Open in Pinehurst. What made the US Open even better was the fact that he did it on the anniversary of Payne Stewart’s win 25 years ago. Payne was his idle and he followed him to SMU as a collegiate. Bryson has stolen the hearts of golfing fans by engaging with the crowds and sharing his emotions with every shot and putt.

Rory McIlroy, who finished second (AGAIN) was devastated after going more than 400 putts without missing inside five feet to missing two putts in the last three holes. When Bryson got up and down from 50 metres from the bunker, Rory turned and walked away from his hardest defeat ever.

The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat! Bryson wins and Rory loses. There is NO middle ground. Golf is great!

Guess who celebrates their 50th anniversary this week?
Our congrats to Norman and Noenie Pretorius!

An Old-Fashioned good time for Father’s Day
A father is someone you look up to, no matter how tall you grow.

We wanted to spoil the dads with a delicious braai offering set on our lawn overseeing our beautiful little village of St Francis.

The afternoon kicked off with a good ole, Old Fashioned cocktail! A famous whiskey cocktail to set the tone for the afternoon.

The flames of the braai burned nice and high filling the area with a haze of smoke and some beautiful music being played in the background.

Our hospitality team put together a menu to behold!

A big thank you to our sponsor of the event – Gentleman Jack! For welcoming all the dads!

Congratulations Christo and Corlea Krugel on the new addition to the family!
Christo was a great part of the St Francis Links team for 7 years! He bid us farewell about a year ago to grow his career and take on new challenges at Pezula as the Golf Operations Manager.
A little birdy told us that the stork has made a delivery to the Krugel household with a new addition to their lovely family!

Meet Reuben Krugel everyone.

Good luck and visit soon Christo, Corlea, Ira and Reuben!

Start those engines!
St Francis Links was proud to form part of one of the stops with FastTrack Road Rally.

Here are some details on the route they took.

Day 1 Route:
The 2024 FastTrack Road Rally began in Summerstrand, Gqeberha and headed towards Van Stadens as the drivers left the windy city.

The Kouga region was the next stop where the vehicles travelled past crop covered farmlands. As the drivers left the Kouga region they ventured off the beaten track towards pine tree lined roads through the Tsitsikamma region.

The Garden Route welcomed the drivers with mountain curves and lush forest roads before entering George, where lunch took place.

The route went over the stunning Outeniqua mountains and concluded with a movie night at The Showroom Theatre on Church Street.

Day 2 Route:
Started with coffee at the Prince Albert community park before the local traffic department provided them with a police escort out of town.

Day 2 had many long and quiet straights cutting through the Karoo desert.

After the infamous Uniondale, the environment started to show signs of greenery again as drivers were greeted by the many citrus farms of the Langkloof region.

The twisty roads of Route 62 lead the drivers back to the Kouga region as the day’s activities end with a lunch and prizegiving with us at St Francis Links!

Some of the cars on display at the clubhouse. Wow!

Tricky lies
Escape with your first try
Playing from bunkers and heavy rough is tough enough as it is. But winter adds water and mush to the mix, and without a gameplan it can be tough to escape.
Your main priority in both cases is to get out and into safety in one shot. In both cases you need to have the correct technique, because the room for error is so much less.

Need some assistance? We’re here to help.

See winter as an opportunity
Taking on the unique challenges of winter golf offers and opportunity for achievement and fun. Escaping difficult lies while every one else toils just adds to the enjoyment.
Master winter golf

To add distance and power off the tee, you need improved energy transfer at impact. This was a main focus for Srixon when designing their ZX Mk II Drivers; clubs that improve your energy transfer without you having to change your swing.

Saving you money this winter
Add distance to that tee shot
You don’t have to buy a new driver to add metres to your tee shot in the spring. Even as we age, working on mobility and rotational strength will translate into swing speed.
ONE extra kph of swing speed =
TWO extra kph of ball speed =
FOUR extra metres of distance
That’s a generalisation because it depends on some additional factors but consider that just 5 extra kilometres per hour of swing speed could generate 20 extra metres of tee shot distance.
There are some simple exercises that will just take some commitment. The result could be far greater than you think. And the results could go beyond the golf course because mobility and strength matters.
The T-Step lunge will create rotational mobility AND power.
Improving your turn by increasing thoracic mobility.
These exercises are all simple without the need for expensive equipment (just a medicine ball) and all will help you improve mobility, range of motion, and speed.

What’s your starting point?
A good place to start to be able to track progress is with a swing speed check. Why not come and let us measure your driver swing speed now and see how it is after 30 days of exercise?
