The Virus and lockdown led to more interest in The Links and St Francis Bay!

It’s never going to be the same – so why can’t it be even better. St Francis Links and St Francis Bay can and is benefiting from the lockdown in some ways. People who chose to be here during lockdown have shown interest in living here permanently. Working from home for many marks a new office.  Moving out of the city and seeking the safety, education possibilities and healthy quality of life, can all be found here. Our entire village life has changed already with more people staying on. This December (travel permitted) may see many homeowners who let their homes and holiday elsewhere, coming here – great!
The financial downside coming from the loss of international spend can be assisted by selling our great location and all on offer. Cape Town has a big drive on to attract Saffers to the Mother City. They even have put forth a guide outlining all the things you can do for less than R50.
Recently, we (St Francis Links) did a post on Facebook (thanks Christo) sharing some of the good attractions here in our backyard and they are free!
OUR LOCAL AMAZING PLACES TO VISIT!
There are many reasons to visit our small village on the 2nd most Southern tip of South Africa. A mere ninety minutes of sight-seeing, road tripping West of Port Elizabeth, lies St Francis Bay. It is a village of hidden places, exciting history and loads of entertainment.  Every local would be a proud host or guide, as our special destination is BIG ON TOURISM!  Here are a few hot spots to explore on your next to 6312:
#STFRANCISCANALS (St Francis Canals)
Known as the first marina in South Africa, this water way has plenty of functions in the modern functionality of St Francis Bay. The local rowing club has enough members now to create quite a traffic jam of paddle sport enthusiasts. It also comes in very handy if you want to take a cruise from your accommodation to one of the restaurants situated on the canal’s shores. There are public areas where families and friends can socialize and enjoy the natural beauty.
#BRUCE’SBEAUTIES (Bruce’s Beauties)
The wave of legends will have you enthralled from your first visit. No need to worry, you do not have to be a surfer to enjoy what it offers. With public areas, a hiking trail and a restaurant a stone throw from the wave itself, you can spend an entire day soaking up the sun while watching the surfers do their thing.
#SUNSETROCKS (Sunset Rocks)
This is arguably the most romantic sunset anywhere!  Invite some friends or join your special one … there’s enough space to dream the day away.  With the help of a weather app you can time the sunset to perfection, so make sure to bring some drinks and snacks and make an event of it.
#OSPREY1867 (Osprey 1867)
If you have an adventurous itch, take a walk on “The Wild Side”. Starting at the location of Sunset Rocks, you can escape from the world for a while. This location marks the wreckage of HMS Osprey, a gun vessel built in 1856 by Fletcher Limehouse. Walk a bit further and you might find the natural “blow holes” showcasing the power of the ocean.
This is just a glimpse of all that St Francis has to offer and our local St Francis Tourism stands ready to showcase much more.  The most prized attraction however is our community!  Immerse yourself in the coastal culture … there’s an open invitation!
And for our members on the estate, there are now some new view points to add to the famous spots above – we call them Sunset Spots. Charl has now constructed three areas where a nice glass of wine will go down very well – 2 are near the 4th tee and 1 is at 2 0’clock as you look from the tee at the 14th. It is on a crown near the path of the red (4,2km) trail. Enjoy the trails and enjoy the views – here and near!  Visitors are welcome if accompanied by a Links member.

Foursomes drew a great field and marriages and friendships are intact!

Maggie Langlands said on the phone after the game that Dave Hart really played great and carried her. When I called Dave to congratulate him (no prizegiving), he said Maggie really played her part in the day. In America, at one club we played foursomes pairing husbands and wives – it was actually referred to as the “Divorce Open”. The couples who played together in Houston, in some cases, were playing together as their only event for the year – it did prove to be quite interesting. Here, our couples managed just fine and so did most of the others who played. Lynn Slogrove and Sandra Marais came second, finishing one shot behind the winners on 39 points. Martin and Jason King remained father and son as they came third, also on 39 points!
