Congratulations Shaun and Pieter!
Well done Shaun Viljoen and Pieter Zietsman! A great stage to compete on!

We are extremely proud of the fact that Shaun and Pieter made the Eastern Province team.

The Eastern Province Men’s Premier Inter-Provincial Tournament 2024 is an important aspect of South African golf, showcasing some of the best amateur golfers from the region.

It is a prestigious event that brings together various provincial teams to compete in a series of matchplay fixtures held over several days.

To form the team, selections are based on players’ performances in regional tournaments and their overall rankings within the unions ranking points.

Shaun and Pieter had a great showing in multiple tournaments related to the Eastern Province Union which in return lead them to be selected in the squad.

The selection process aims to identify players who not only demonstrate exceptional skill and consistency but also possess the ability to perform under pressure during competitive play.

The Eastern Province team will compete against other provincial teams, including those from Central Gauteng, Western Province, and others.

Each match contributes to an overall points system that determines the champion of the tournament. The performance of each player can significantly impact their province’s standing in this competition.

We all wish the two of you and the Eastern Province team the very best of luck!

Bring that Trophy home gents!

Both the Halfway Deli and our Golf Shop have undergone a significant transformation, embracing a modern design that enhances both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Our inviting new Halfway Deli
The much brighter more contemporary Golf Shop
This redesign aims to provide our guests with an inviting atmosphere while enjoying quality food, beverages and shopping in a picturesque setting.

The new halfway layout features contemporary elements that blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings of our beautiful golf course. Large windows allow for ample natural light, creating an open and airy environment.

Alongside the physical redesign, the menu has been revamped to include a diverse selection of gourmet sandwiches, fresh salads, and artisanal coffee. Don’t be concerned, our old hits are still on the menu! You can still grab that delicious smash burger on the turn to power you though the back nine. The culinary team are looking forward to hosting you, ensuring that each dish is delicious.

This transformation is set to elevate the dining experience for all who visit, making it a must-visit destination for both golfers and non-golfers alike.

This past Tuesday the ladies gathered again at 10h00 and enjoyed the new facility. Chef Pieter also intends to develop his offering even more so look out for delicious off the shelf conveniences for the home.

We invite you to come downstairs in the clubhouse, taste and enjoy!

Why Golf Courses Dust the Greens: A Closer Look
Dear Golf Enthusiasts,

As we step into the heart of the golf season, you may have noticed a subtle yet important maintenance practice: the dusting of greens. But why do courses implement this technique? Let’s explore the reasons behind it.

Dusting involves applying a light layer of sand or topdressing material to the greens. This practice helps create a smoother, more consistent putting surface. It fills in small imperfections and promotes a healthy turf, ensuring a better overall experience for golfers.

A well-maintained green relies on effective drainage to prevent waterlogging. Dusting aids in improving the soil structure, allowing for better water infiltration and air circulation. This is particularly important after heavy rain, as it helps maintain optimal playing conditions.

Topdressing adds essential nutrients back into the soil, fostering healthy grass growth. It encourages the development of a robust root system, which is vital for the greens’ longevity and resilience against disease and wear.

Regular dusting can help control pests and diseases. A thin layer of sand can disrupt the lifecycle of certain pests and prevent fungal outbreaks, keeping the greens in top shape throughout the season.

Finally, a freshly dusted green simply looks great! It provides a neat, well-cared-for appearance that enhances the overall beauty of the course, adding to the enjoyment for players and spectators alike.

So, the next time you see course staff dusting the greens, remember that this practice is about more than just appearance—it’s a vital part of maintaining the quality and playability of the course.

Happy golfing!

Sungjae Im and Tom Kim, both younger talents, add fresh energy to the team.

The inclusion of players like Jason Day, who has had success in past editions of the Presidents Cup, provides leadership and experience.

The matchup will be crucial as it pits established American dominance against an international squad eager to secure their first victory since 1998.

It’s our birthday! Make sure you have secured your tickets for our 70th Birthday bash that is not to be missed!
Tee off for a PAW-some cause
A very smart man – Scott Fawcett – built a game management model based on the fact that golf is a game of misses. His model for choosing the shot you’ll play is based on your “cone of misses”.

He called it a cone because, however good you are, the width of your miss is wider the longer the club you’re playing.

Last week we asked which shot you would choose if faced with an approach shot of 160 – 170 metres with sea uncomfortably close to the right. Try placing your cone of misses up to 160 metres over the image.
Surely the randomness of golf, even for the elite, means that even taking on the centre of the green, presents too much risk?

If you’re thinking scorecard, you don’t take that shot on. If you’re thinking of golf as a series of ‘challenges’, does it change where you aim? What drives your shot-making decisions? If you haven’t already done so in the last weeks, let us know what drives your thinking.

Please answer a simple question

A big part of the 10-shot difference between an 18 and 8 handicapper is in the shot selection on the course. Book a playing lesson and let us show you how many shots good game management takes off your scorecard.

To add distance and power off the tee, you need improved energy transfer at impact. This was a main focus for Srixon when designing their new ZX Mk II Drivers; clubs that improve your energy transfer without you having to change your swing.

Does it surprise anyone that one of the four big differences between an 18-handicap golfer and scratch golfer is the number of 3-putts in a round? This isn’t the scratch golfer having shorter first putts.
The challenge is “SPEED CONTROL”. There is a science to the backswing and follow-through that most golfers are unaware of.
There are many GREAT DRILLS
There are a lot of drills to help you practise your lag putting so that you reduce your 3-putts. But there’s a science to the backswing and follow-through in your putting stroke that most golfers are unaware of.

If you’d be interested in either us showing you some drills or working with you on your putting stroke, then please
