The Links Trophy – EPGU Event
A strong showing by our members!
The St Francis Links Trophy, part of the Eastern Province Golf Union (EPGU) events, showcased a competitive day of golf featuring several notable performances from members of the St Francis Links.
Key Performances
  1. Chris van Rensburg: He emerged as the best-placed member with a score of 74. This performance indicates a strong level of consistency and skill, particularly in a competitive setting where pressure can impact scores significantly.
  2. Shaun Viljoen: The young golfer finished in 5th place with a score of 75. His performance is commendable. Finishing in the top five reflects his amazing potential as an emerging talent within the golfing community.
  3. Jacques van der Walt: Participating in a Matchplay EPGU fixture, Jacques experienced a dramatic round where he was initially 5 down but managed to bring the match back to all square by the end of regulation play. Unfortunately, he lost on the first playoff hole, demonstrating resilience and competitive spirit throughout his match.
  4. Hannes Lourens: Competing in the B division while playing off white tee boxes as a junior golfer against more seasoned players showcases not only his talent but also his courage to compete at higher levels despite being younger and less experienced

Marked by impressive performances that reflect both individual excellence and the camaraderie among participants, each player demonstrated their skills under pressure, contributing to an exciting day for spectators and fellow competitors alike.

Foster Golf Day Success at St Francis Links
The Foster Golf Day, hosted at our prestigious St Francis Links and valued neighbour St Francis Bay, has emerged as a remarkable event that not only celebrated golf but also highlighted the importance of conservation in the region. This event was organised by Debbie McCracken. FOSTER stands for Friends of St Francis Nature Reserves, an organisation dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of our significant nature reserves located in and around Cape St Francis: Seal Point, Seal Bay, Cape St Francis, and Irma Booysen Nature Areas.
Overview of FOSTER’s Role
FOSTER plays a crucial role as the custodian of these nature reserves. Their mission encompasses various activities aimed at protecting local biodiversity, promoting environmental education, and fostering community involvement in conservation efforts. The organization works tirelessly to ensure that these natural habitats are preserved for future generations while also providing opportunities for local communities to engage with their environment.
What you missed out on!
The Foster Golf Day was designed not only as a fundraising initiative but also as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of conserving these natural areas. Participants included local golfers, conservation enthusiasts and community members who share a passion for preserving the unique ecosystems found within the reserves. The day featured a well-organised golf tournament along with various activities aimed at educating attendees about the flora and fauna native to Cape St Francis.

We encourage our members to visit their website and see the amazing work that they are doing! Visit their website: https://foster.org.za/

The PGA Championship is around the corner!
A trophy that can tell you a story
The inaugural PGA Championship was played at the Royal Cape Golf Club in 1923.

A rather cool engraving on the trophy is 1944 and 1945 the tournament could not be hosted due World War 2 – That just highlights the age of this special tournament.

CONNECTIONS matter
The game helps to bring people together. And that seemed to be the primary motivator for most us to get out and play golf. ‘Fun with friends’. That and the personal challenge of the game.
Isn’t it striking, when you see golfers in a group on a golf course or at the range, that however great the personal challenge, there seems to be a lot of happiness.
Sometimes when someone joins a golf club though, it isn’t as easy as they might like to find introductions when so many groups are already established.
If you’d like INTRODUCTIONS
Connecting golfers is part of what we love about our job. If you want to be introduced to a group or other golfers, then please reach out to us.

Boring is exciting
DON’T BE TEMPTED
AIM FOR THE MIDDLE
How many times have you seen the very best ball strikers on tour avoid aiming for the flag? They refuse to be tempted into a shot that offers danger. Where on the green should you be aiming?
Play a round where you prioritise hitting the green over attacking the flag. Focus on playing for the centre of the green. And then swing easier with an emphasis on solid ball striking.
By playing for the center of the green, you can drastically reduce the risk of landing in the trouble that surrounds the greens, which will in turn decrease those negative thoughts that can occasionally creep in throughout the round.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Take bigger scores off your card and your scores will drop. For many golfers, ‘breaking 85’ means embracing simplicity in game management and their golf swing. If you want to talk about a simpler journey to under 85, then
