The new normal – get healthy, stay healthy!

As the lockdown finally lifted, many of you started golfing, walking, running, paddling and cycling more than ever! The lockdown affected all of us differently and “some” of us, even with vigorous training, found the refrigerator too close to the couch. Even after we returned to full time here at work, something  must have gone array during the lockdown period. There were some stressful situations that may have changed my metabolism. I had gained weight. Dammit. I even saw the doctor for advice. The super B shot helped but I was mentally strong and physically weak. When it came to the return of golf I faded faster than a navy blue shirt in the summer sun. Holding a club was as foreign to me as a cellist trying to play a trumpet. Most of you know me as being perpetually on diet (see food diet) and in my 14 years here I have gained and lost a hundred pounds, unlike people like Rex McGregor and Pete Maskew who could probably wear their school uniform today. Now I have found the secret…exercise in harmony with nature – right here!

I found the perfect plan

Our Estate offers more walks than the Kruger Park, and some of the best walks when you are not circling our beautiful course in the morning or evening are our trails on the west side of the estate. Don’t even take your earphones as the music that Nature provides will be your entertainment.

You can take a short walk or a long walk; you can start with one and finish with another. You can run them or walk,  stop, read the signs and smell the fynbos. The trails are well marked and all are manageable – hey, I’ve done the purple trail twice in a week.  This is just another reason to choose the Links as your home (visitors must be accompanied by members to enjoy the trails).

Food and Beverage – Consistently Consistent – 4 years in a row!

Marsha Cooper celebrated her birthday with us! That was done properly!

Golfing Highlights

Norman Rock is on a run with 74 from the blue tees last week and 80/69 nett from the white on Wednesday. Izzy and Madelaine took to honours in ITEC Wednesday, counting out Norman and Ronnie Nienaber who counted out Fred Van Eyssen and Paul Spencer for 2nd and third.

On the Saturday before Jason King fired on all cylinders finishing with a 64 Nett. But Juanita Gobby and Sandra Marais got it right scoring with Rita Du Plessis and Norman Rock as their ghosts. Norman’s 74 produced a 66 nett while Rita had nett 72 and Jo nett 70.

Rita and Jo kept the fire hot as they paired up with Simmo (Keith Simpson) and Gavin Gobby to walk the the couples – which, by the way, is finding its footing on Sunday mornings – book yourselves in on the Clubmaster APP.  Rita fired a 78 GROSS, her best round at the Links. Yeehaw.

Watch this space!

Collin Morikawa won the PGA Championship, only his 2nd major, by shooting 65-64=129 on the weekend. Harding Park a Muni course was no slouch to play with the narrowest fairways played in the last 40 years and patchy rough where there were places where you could lose your shoes. He has more tournaments that missed cuts (3 to 1). In testing equipment, as they can today, he hits balls closer together with a six iron than others do with a wedge – think about it.

His shock as the lid comes falling off the trophy
