Els for Autism touches so many!

I sent out a letter to all the members here and the response from some was outstanding while the majority are still a bit quiet. Members all receive a special rate that includes everything listed below. But more important is the gift of giving – 1 in 68 boys are affected and the number is increasing. Please get together with friends for a special day!

Els for AUTISM is very close to my heart having watched Ernie and Liezl come to terms with it in their own lives. Their efforts worldwide have changed the perception of Autism everywhere. I hosted two Autism days here and then stood back for a year because I felt I was calling on the same people over and over. This year we are bringing it back on the 28th of February. I am sure you know someone who has someone in their life who has a form of Autism, like Ernie and Liezl’s Ben. Their centre and structures in SA are reliant on local funding. The golf events generate proper financial support.

The entry fee for the event is R5000 per four-ball with special pricing for members. This includes golf fees, 1/2way, Prizegiving Dinner, Welcome gifts (great stuff) and prizes. The winners on the day are invited to make their way to Lost City where every expense there will be included and the finals will be held.

I do want you to play in the event and encourage others to join in!  Contact  golf@stfrancislinks.com

The great Gary Player was our special guest at the BMW National Championships

The billing for the finalists at the BMW Golf Cup International at Pezula was on the programme as “one of South Africa’s greatest golfers. Join us one the 10th tee after play.” The surprise was none other than Gary Player and I had him almost to myself for a good bit of time before he played two holes for the participants. Then Liezl and I shared the main table with him, Tim Abbott, CEO of Africa and the Sub-Sahara for BMW and the emcee’s for the tournament, Jo Anne Strauss and Dan Nicholl. Mr Player was interviewed on stage by Dan and the stories were amazing – highlighting the struggle as a South African in the early years to his concwerns about our future as a country. Ever the professional, he gave praise to BMW as the top brand in South Africa today (noted for 2018) and their contributions to the country, which were worthy of additional mention.

Janine VD Merwe wins the Ladies’ Division! GP

As the Tournament Director, is was my role to start the golfers and keep them calm before teeing off. Then I was on the course for pace of play and rulings, if needed. When it came to starting the Ladies’ Division, I remained at the Men’s tee so as not to put them off. On the course, I kept my distance as well, especially when it came to Janine and her leading four-ball. At the turn, she actually held third position, seven shots behind a young golfer who hit the ball miles (before playing the entire 18, Chelene Oosthuizen focused on long drive contests, competing internationally). BMT, big match temperament prevailed as the long drives went skew and Janine kept pushing. A one point victory for our Janine VD Merwe has her on a jet to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, representing South Africa! Liezl asked Mr Player to share a picture and the tournament was complete!
