Ladies Member Member

On Saturday we hosted our Annual Ladies Member Member tournament. The morning started off early, the weather conditions were fair, and the pressure started building on the first tee. In the second match out Jaunita Gobby partnered with Beth Jaskolski.  Completing the fourball Lynn Slogrove partnered with Rita du Plessis and through 9 holes Lynn and Rita (24 points) took a 1 point lead over Sandra Marais and partner Debbie McCracken.  Trailing by two points were Sandy Cunningham and partner Dita Meulmeester as well as the team of Sally Nienaber and Madelaine Barry. Jaunita and Beth also managed to post 22 points when they stopped at halfway.  The back 9 proved tougher and the best scores coming in were 21 points.  At the 16th hole Jaunita made a four pointer to take a 1 point lead over Lynn and Rita. In the end Jaunita and Beth managed to post 43 betterball points, good enough for a two point victory over Lynn and Rita.

We would like to thank Bard’au Beauty Spa for sponsoring the welcome gifts as well as adding to the the first prize.  The ladies enjoyed lunch after prizegiving and Chef Jon had a dessert demonstration which the ladies thoroughly enjoyed.

Par 3 Championship

On Sunday our Annual Par 3 Championship started at 7h30.  Our defending Champions John Wilson and Lynn Slogrove were also in the field. To calculate handicaps to determine net winners, the men played off 60% their course handicap from the blue tees.  The ladies played off 60% of their course handicap from the red tees.  The format for the Championship is strokeplay, which meant there was no time to lose concentration as the course can fight back at any moment.  Keith Simpson, Ernest Brendeman and Fouche Swart all shot level par 27 on the front 9 and all three of them played the back 9 in one under par 26.  This meant there was a three way playoff to determine the Men’s Champion.  On the first playoff hole Keith Simpson showed us why he has won trophies all around the world.  Playing 110 meters the 18th provided the spectators with a perfect amphitheater to watch the deciding playoff.  Keith hit his tee shot within 1 meter from the hole and holed the short putt, center cut to claim victory.

The Ladies Championship was also decided by playoff.  Partners the day before, Rita du Plessis took on Lynn Slogrove who won the title in 2017 and 2018.  It took 4 playoff holes to determine to winner, and Lynn Slogrove came out victorious once again.  Well done to Lynn and Rita, you handled the pressure like professionals and put on a great show.

Many two clubs were made on the day but there was only 1 hole in one.  Martin King hit the perfect shot on the 18th and bought everyone present a round of drinks, congratulations Martin.  Norman Pretorius successfully defended the best dressed title.  We had many great contenders, however Norman won unanimously. The leather shorts that Norman wore for the first time really sets the bar high for the future.
