Exciting Build-Up to the Pam Golding Ladies Open
As we gear up for one of South Africa’s biggest club amateur ladies golf events, excitement is in the air! There will be 160 golfers from all over South Africa heading to St Francis Bay ready to showcase their skills on two of South Africa’s most scenic and memorable golf courses – St Francis Links and St Francis Bay. This weekend promises to be filled with fun, camaraderie and a healthy dose of competition.
Schedule of Events
The festivities kick off on Friday with a par 3, 9 hole practice round at the stunning St Francis Links. This will allow our participants to warm up and get acquainted with the course before diving into the main event. The Draw for the main event will be available soon.
A Special Thanks to Our Sponsors
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Pam Golding Properties, our amazing sponsor. Their support is invaluable as we look forward to growing participation in this event next year. We are already brainstorming ways to accommodate even more golfers, ensuring that this tournament continues to flourish.

In addition to this, Albert Saunders has also come on board this year to add even more to the already excellent experience!

Volkswagen Dirk Ellis – Hole-in-One Excitement
To add to the thrill of the weekend, we are excited to announce that there will be a hole-in-one vehicle up for grabs: a sleek Volkswagen T-Cross 1.0 TSI 70kW, valued at an impressive R380,000! This beauty will be parked at the 17th hole, and we’re all hoping that one lucky golfer can hit that perfect shot and drive away in style!

Beat Saria Competition
But wait, there’s more! We’ll also host a fun-filled Beat Saria Competition! Our wonderful host for the weekend from Pam Golding, Saria Blaauw, will take her shot towards the 18th green. Any golfer who can outdo her attempt will win a fantastic prize! This exciting challenge will take place from the top terrace towards the 18th green/practice putting green just ahead of tee-off times.
Our Beautiful Pam Golding host – Saria Blaauw – will be ready to meet you this weekend!

Evening Dinner at Joe Fish Restaurant
With the current renovations taking place at St Francis Links, the evening dinner will be held at Joe Fish Restaurant located within Cape St Francis Resort! To make it even more special, a fun beach theme will be in place. We look forward to seeing all our ladies really get into the spirit with some vibrant beach-themed vibes and outfits around the pool at Joe Fish. Our Two Golf Professionals – Carel Tromp and Nazeem Goeda – have put aside some time for that evening to be the Life Guards on duty, should any ladies have difficulty in the swimming pool. We appreciate their time!
Prize Giving Lunch
The event will conclude at the Bay with a delightful prize-giving lunch, where Saria will be handing out prizes! It’s sure to be a memorable end to an exciting weekend filled with competition and camaraderie.

Let’s make this event memorable with laughter, friendly competition, and perhaps some unexpected surprises along the way!

What a highlight for the Ladies!
As we will be welcoming ladies from all over South Africa this weekend with the Pam Golding Ladies Open, we want to highlight some of the very recent achievements from our ever-growing and improving ladies group of golfers!

  • Isabella Obray won our Ladies Club Championships with a record low score two weeks back.
  • Lynn Slogrove won the Silver Division of Humewood’s Stroke Play Championship this past week, which was played over 36 holes. She scored 84 and 86 to win by 1 shot.
  • Lynn was also crowned the Humewood Matchplay Champ with convincing victories! When asked how many Club Champs she has won, she cool and calmly responds with: “At least 30, but I lost count a while back”!

  • Lynn, who is also our Ladies League Captain, successfully led our awesome team of ladies to their second victory in the history of St Francis Links the week thereafter!

Another Successful Ladies Clinic Hosted by Nazeem Goeda!
We’re thrilled to announce that our latest ladies clinic, hosted by the one and only Nazeem Goeda, was another smashing success!

If you missed it, don’t worry! There’s always next time.

But for those who joined us this past Monday, we hope you had as much fun as we did!

What was covered?
This week, we focused on some essential swing principles that will have you hitting the ball like a pro in no time. Here’s a quick rundown of what we tackled:
Club Face Aim
First up was the all-important club face aim. Nazeem demonstrated how even the slightest misalignment can send your ball off into the rough (or worse!). We practiced setting up our stance and aligning our club face with our target.
Swing Path
Next, we dove into swing path. Nazeem explained that your swing path is like a luxury car: it needs to be smooth and controlled to iron out all the bumps you could encounter!

We worked on drills to help visualize this path, ensuring that our swings followed an ideal arc.

Speed
Finally, we wrapped things up with swing speed. Nazeem shared tips on how to generate power without sacrificing control. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where you feel like a superhero but still keep your balance.

We look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces at our next session! Remember, every member is welcome and this session is absolutely free!

Woodlands Dairy Golf Day: A Swinging Success for Hospice Care!
The Woodlands Dairy Golf Day hosted this past week – Thursday 8th May and Friday 9th May 2025, just keeps on getting better and bigger!

This year the event attracted a whopping 124 golfers each day. It’s not just about swinging clubs; it’s about making a difference in our community!

From the moment participants arrived, they were treated like golf royalty. Each golfer received personalised golf carts stocked with snacks and refreshments, because who doesn’t need a little fuel while trying to sink that elusive hole-in-one?

Getting a proper briefing from our very own Santa! Jeff Clause made sure the players knew exactly what the format was along with other important info, before taking on our beautiful golf course.

In addition, food and drink stations dotted the course like little oasis of joy, with the St Francis Links hospitality team ready to greet golfers as they strolled off the greens. Talk about service with a smile!

Over the years, Woodlands Dairy has successfully raised hundreds of thousands of Rands with these events for hospice care – a truly commendable achievement!

While the team is still busy crunching numbers from this year’s event, they are quietly confident that they will either meet or even surpass previous years impressive totals. Fingers crossed for some record-breaking figures!

Here’s to another successful year of golfing for a great cause! Let’s keep those drives straight and those putts true after all, it’s all in aid of hospice!

REFLECTION TIME
THREE LEVELS
If you reduce your short game to the chip shot and the short-pitch shot, you can complete a simple self-evaluation.
Are you:
1.
Familiar with the technique basics, but not able to make consistent contact, prone to thinning or ‘chunking’ these shots?
2.
Able to make consistent contact with the ball to create the correct shot but inconsistent with your distance control?
3.
Can you control the distance on both these shots quite well or very well?

Progressing from Level One to Level Two or from Level Two to Three has a large impact on your scorecard. And for those at Level Three, progressing to wizard level is your next big step.

Would a Short-Game School …
If we scheduled a short-game school, practice club, or improvement programme, specifically for members in one level who want to get to the next, would that interest you? Let us know and we’ll mail you when we have something on the schedule.

FASTER, WITH A LONGER
FLIGHT TIME IS GOOD.
The Srixon Soft Feel will help you launch the ball a little higher, while the dimple pattern will then help the ball stay airborne with a longer ball flight. Enjoy a better golf experience.
