Distance Control in Putting |
In our recent clinic, we emphasised the significance of distance control in putting. Understanding how to gauge the distance to the hole is crucial for making successful putts. The ability to control the speed of the ball directly influences the amount it will break as it approaches the hole. |
Key Points on Distance Control |
- Understanding Break: The amount a putt breaks is influenced by its speed.
- Practice Drills: We recommend practicing with different lengths of putts, focusing on hitting each target at varying speeds to develop a feel for how distance affects break.
|
Another critical aspect we covered was the correct setup before taking a putt. This includes positioning your body and ensuring that your eyeline is directly over the golf ball. |
- Alignment: Having your eyeline over the ball helps ensure that you are aligned correctly with your intended target line.
- Consistency: A consistent setup allows for more reliable stroke mechanics, which can lead to improved accuracy and confidence when putting.
|
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart (or slightly wider).
- Position the ball slightly forward in your stance.
- Bend slightly at the hips while keeping your back straight.
- Ensure that your eyes are directly over or just inside the ball.
By focusing on these fundamentals – distance control and proper setup – we aim to enhance our putting skills significantly. |

MAKE TIME |
What is MOST IMPORTANT to you? |
Below is a quadrant. It isn’t perfect. It isn’t complete. But looking at the axis, and thinking about what you want to get out of the game of golf, where would you sit? |
Let’s have some fun with this. If as many of you as possible can follow the link and let us have your answer, we’ll publish a ‘heat map’ at the end of the month.
Don’t try and make it too complicated. |
 |
|
If golf for you is all about the challenge and competition, then it’s square 12. |
|
|
|
|
 |
|
On the other side of the spectrum if, for you, golf is a very social experience that is about being outside, active, and de-stressing, then it’s square 7. |
|
Already this requires a little more thought, doesn’t it? And we’ve made it just a little more difficult by not giving you a square 1 – right in the middle.
If you haven’t already done it, please |
Whatever the reason you play golf, it will be for a reason that’s important to you. You don’t need more reasons. The question is, how can we help you get more out of your golf experience? |

However good you are It’s the |
It doesn’t matter why you play the game (and most play for the social connection), the experience of hitting the perfect iron shot is thrilling.
What feeling does it leave you with?
What makes it more likely to happen more often?

Have you discovered the |
‘fitting’ difference? |
Everything about your golf game is made up of ‘experiences’. You play golf with people you enjoy to have the best social experience. Play golf with equipment that is equally as friendly to you. |
