Robbie Marshall!
Robbie Marshall and I met years ago and both of us have love and respect for Jack Nicklaus and all that he has done. I’d like to pay tribute to Robbie by sharing this podcast that shows where Robbie came from to where he is today. Robbie was building the first Nicklaus Signature course in South Africa for Ola Grinaker after they secured the rights from Jack Nicklaus design. I left Fancourt to be part of that dream, having been at a highly regarded Nicklaus Signature in Texas. Simola flooded badly during construction and sadly Ola’s dream, Robbie’s first Nicklaus course and my dream to be a part of it ended before it began. It was at that time that Robbie first brought Jack to see this land that is now St Francis Links – nearly 10 years before this dream came true. Some 25 years later, Robbie and Golf Data have produced 4 top-20 courses in Pearl Valley* (2), Leopard Creek (3), SFL* (5), Durban CC (12) and Simola* (19) in addition to other greats, Pecanwood*, Steyn City^ and Serengeti*! We must get Robbie here for a special night where he can share the stories that came with building St Francis Links – like taking nine attempts to get the 9th green in place (what wind).
Robbie is a developer and property owner here and always promotes St Francis Links wherever he goes. Robbie is a friend and I want to share part of Robbie’s great life story in the podcast with RCA’s, Rob Arnold (who, by the way, is also leading the way in SA).

Team member of the Week: Ayanda Jan
My name is Ayanda Jan and I have been working at St Francis Links for 6 years now. I am the team leader for the alien eradication team that also looks after the trails and we do a lot of work on the security fence as well. On weekends I help with course setup and the cutting of new cups. What I love about my job is that I learn something new every day and this makes me stronger as a person, and I like sharing my knowledge with others.
I was born in the Transkei in 1990 in Qumbu village and moved to Port Elizabeth in 1992 where I also finished my primary school and high school. In 2015 I moved to St Francis Bay where I started working at St Francis Links. I come from a family of 8, I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters and I am the youngest, we are sharing love and peace. My favourite bible verse is Psalm 25: 4 – “Show me Your ways, O Lord teach me Your path, guide me in Your truth, You are my God my Savior, my hope is in You all day long”.
Thank you all for caring about your course – #leading the way
