Golfing glory despite the chill at St Francis Links |
The Eastern Province’s top golfing talents showcased their skills on a rather cold and windy Sunday at St Francis Links. Despite a less-than-ideal weather forecast, the rain held off during the play window, allowing for some truly remarkable golf to be displayed.
The Mid-Am Champion: Johan Coetzer, achieved a stellar score of 71.
A special mention goes to our members:
Shaun Viljoen, who won the open section with a score of 71. Chris van Rensburg, who secured valuable points on the EP Order of Merit with a score of 75, finished in 4th place. |

Weather woes and wonderful wins in St Francis Bay! |
You know what they say about St Francis Bay – we’re famous for experiencing all four seasons in a single day! It keeps things interesting, to say the least.
Our operations team has been glued to the weather forecasts lately, especially with the EP Mid-Amateur tournament happening last Sunday. The forecast wasn’t looking too promising, but thankfully, the day turned out much better than expected. It wasn’t exactly a beach day, but the golfers were able to enjoy their game.
But Mother Nature, as always, had a few tricks up her sleeve. She was playing the long game, keeping her best cards hidden.
Then, BAM! Monday afternoon hit, and she revealed her two aces! We were hit with a whopping 40 mm of rain falling in less than an hour, causing some crazy flooding around town. To top it all off, a rather intimidating waterspout made an appearance out towards the wild side of Cape St Francis.
Despite the downpour, the course held up remarkably well. If you’re in the area, be sure to pop in and see for yourself! We’re always ready to welcome you. |

The Karoo Classic at Victoria West |
 |
Travelling to Jannie and Bimpie Olivier’s 172-year-old farm near Vic West is an experience all by itself. The home with its 18-inch walls, yellowwood floors and beautiful gardens shows the history of the farm in all its glory.
12 of us travelled from here and 4 joined us from the Western Cape. Big Schalk Burger and his mates contributed to the fun in every way possible.
This was our 4th trip to the farm and also our fourth time playing the world-famous (nearly) Karoo Classic on oil greens and less-than-perfect fairways. Small mats are required for play in the “fairways” and not allowed off them; for those shots a “rock club” is preferred.
Before the Classic on Saturday, we travelled the farm on the back of bakkies, learning about the history of the farm, the fynbos that feeds the famous Karoo lambs and sheep, the genetic practices that have, over the years, transformed these precious animals from only wool producers to 50% wool and 50% meat!
This year, we experienced something different – the vaccinating, “tattooing” and necessary steps for the lamb’s health. Let’s leave it at that. I just wasn’t in the mood for “Skaap Stertjies” the next day on the course.
Sue Cogswell was on her first tour to the event and, as a long-time vegetarian, she was exposed to about ten kilos of meat less than us. For us it was a lunch braai, dinner braai, breakfast braai and leftover braais! The main event featured boneless leg of lamb – yeeeeowzers it was excellent!
When it was said and done, the 42nd Karoo Classic, was another big success. We all lost a notch on our belts, had maybe two too many cool drinks but shared memories for life. Thanks Johnny and Bimpie O! |

ENGINEERING TO MAKE YOUR GAME BETTER RIGHT NOW |
Energy transfer to the ball is improved right across the face with the new i-FLEX face structure of the Srixon ZXi Drivers. |
The added strength of the interior structure allows the center of the face to be thinner, resulting in more energy transfer and a faster ball speed. |
Your Personal Experience of
How Much Better |
You know the right shaft for your golf swing increases distance and fairways found. So does the right grip size. That’s why a fitting adds so much to the experience you’ll have every time you use your new driver. |
