Charl Schwartzel is in Championship form (and smiling, too)

We all know that the South African golfers are HOT right now with everyone (almost everyone) winning! Let’s just say that Ernie is in mentoring mode as his boys are shining. With Louis, Gracie and Charl all living nearby in Florida, the good vibes must be flowing. Just as we were wondering where Louis and Charl’s fire was, they gained confidence here and in Oz to prepare themselves for the Big TOUR in the USA. I read Dale Hayes weekly mail this morning where he referred to Gary winning at home to gain confidence –

Dale wrote:

Gary Player realized the importance of confidence and that was why he always supported the Sunshine Tour. He would play at least four tournaments a year at home, then add a few in Australia or South America plus a few special events with small fields. These were relatively “easy” tournaments for Gary to win. With these wins under his belt he would then go to America brimming with confidence. Gary’s record speaks for itself – 163 wins worldwide and nine majors. Only Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus have records that compare. Over the years Ernie Els has done the same, but not as consistently as Gary.

This year Charl won two events at home and now has had his best start to the PGA Tour ever. I would love to see all the other top players playing two or three events at home before embarking on the overseas Tour. I have no doubt that we would see more wins from Louis, Branden and the others.

It’s an exciting time for South African golf. Six South African players played over the weekend on the PGA Tour. That just could be a record for South Africa.

Young Haydn Porteous and Brandon Stone finished One-Two at the season-ending Investec Cup at Millvale. Maybe the younsters gave their mentors a boost!
Either way, it is great to see – South African golfers leaving their mark worldwide! You gotta love it!
Charl looked really solid – in control of his swing and his emotions – Someone has given him a ‘happy pill’ and it looks like he is liking it all again. Keep smiling, big boy!

Special mention: 54-hole leader, Bill Haas had no chance on Sunday. Regardless as to whether it was Charl or someone else, he made one very fatal error before teeing off – he put on a white shirt on Sunday. No one in recorded history has won wearing a white shirt – check it out! i am not kidding…

Charl had all of the answers and Bill lost his Sunday dress sense!

It’s Wedding Season with three BIG March Weddings

This past weekend ouir staff was pushed to the perverbial limit passing each other (one team leaving and another arriving) on Saturday morning. The 170 guests for Friday’s neptials started their celebrations with a function for 90 (uh, make that 120) on Thursday night. Then, after the music stopped at 2am on Sunday morning, the entire room needed to be dismantled and reset for a family brunch. Then…the boys played golf and finished with a shoot-out! All was good.

I had to laugh and take this pic as the photographer was thry to get the kids to all jump together on ‘three’! Our bride make her way.

This week we welcome another wedding celebration – this time with an American flare as many will be joining us from the USA. Next weekend, on Good Friday, the VD Heever’s granddaughter with be saying her vows with Annamarie Vlok’s son. All of our weddings provide a nice boost to the local economy with bed nights and discretionary spending throughout. Bring on the bride’s (and grooms and families and friends and…).
