From 3rd League (entry) to 1st League and VICTORY!
The St Francis Links Men’s League side played the year without losing to any of their competitors, but the winning margins in most games were slim. So, the final matches against St Francis Bay and PE Golf Club were vital to finishing on top. The matches against The Hill were a bit one-sided with The Links winning 15-3. But the match with The Bay was primed to be a good one. As they are all friends on and off the course, the banter began before the match, discussing pairings that would ensure proper competitiveness. Phil Smith wanted Fouché and Fouché wanted Phil. Their match proved to be the decider. In the end, it was 10-8 to the Links and the league title was coming to our trophy case!
Playing together this year were Fouché Swart, Mark Ward, Keith Simpson, Jacques VD Walt, Chris V Rensburg and Boetie Zietsman

The Pam Golding Ladies’ Open Weekend
The field was full with 96 players. The participants came from Hoedspruit to Paarl and George to Pretoria. Our friends from Knysna and PE are always in strong support and the local Clubs, courses and members who assisted did themselves proud. The recent rains brought the green colours back to the fairways at the Bay and, despite a Saturday “hurricane”, the ladies were all happy with the experience. Richard Arderne and Pam Golding Properties were the main sponsors again this year. Additional support from Bay Union who put R100 000 for the 1st eagle on our 5th hole or a chance for the person who was nearest the pin on 5 to have a 20-footer for R20 000. Ilse Brits gave it a great try in front of the ladies above. We also want to thank Woodlands Dairy for their sponsorship.
- Great scores
- Great prizes
Jaunita Gobby and her returning partner, Lettie La Grange (who won last year’s Ladies Invitational) were in the driver’s seat again! They stormed to victory with 86 points over the two days. They were given a good chase from Knysna’s Charlotte Stringer and Ursula Fahnauer. Charlotte fired a 73 gross on the Links with an eagle and four birdies. Nicolle Kellett and Dawn Spears came third with rounds of 40 and 43! Special thanks to Captain Ja-Lo from the Bay, Justin Roux, GM at The Bay and all the ladies who pitched in.

Team member of the Week: Amandla Hlela
I have been working at St Francis Links for more than 5 years. I started as a casual in Jack’s Bar however I moved to the Golf Department in December 2015. In 2016 I became a permanent employee and I am very happy to be part of this team. I am a golf cart attendant and I was also trained to be a golf cart mechanic.
I love my job and meeting different people from all over the world. I like to share jokes with our members. Every day has a new challenge and I like to go the extra mile for our members and guests so that they can feel welcome and come back again.
I am a sportsman, before working at the links I was playing soccer, however, my focus is now on golf as I have fallen in love with the game.
I come from a loving, caring and God-fearing family. I am the firstborn and have a little sister. I am the father of 3 children. Sinelizuue is 12, Lathitha is 6 and my little one, Luncumo is turning 2 in July.
My motivations:
- Always keep going you never know what somebody else sees in you.
- Work so hard that you forget what day it is.
Thank you all for caring about your course – #leading the way
