6 Qualifying Events – Flights Booked – Hotel Booked – Serengeti ready – Check
Our St Francis Links Team consisted of two Ladies and two Men. Linda Clarke and Lynn Slogrove were the only two Ladies in the event and they played very well. Hein Spangenberg and Ernest Bendeman played together like long time golf buddies as they duff tailed around the course and played to each others strengths . The course played long as Serengeti had some rain leading up to the event. Serengeti was in fantastic condition and our players thoroughly enjoyed it.
Pierre van Vuuren, the Director of Golf is a great host and they entertained all the players every night. Thanks to the whole team at Serengeti.
Day 1
Our team started off well but after 9 holes play was suspended due to lightning in the area. We were not able to play again on Friday and we decided to complete the final 9 holes early on Saturday morning. Everyone was playing well but the putts did not go in.
Day 2
I think the weather worked in our favor as our team played very well on Saturday. The team swung golf clubs with confidence and the putts were falling. Our team ended with 75 points in the Betterball Competition, 11 points behind Houghton. The afternoon Greensomes Competition started at 11h30 and our team played FANTASTIC! The Ladies had 32 points and the Men surprised everyone with 41 points. They had a gross 73, no other team came close to that. Hein and Ernest played like Pro’s and we lead the tournament by 5 points after day 2.
Day 3
The morning started off cold and windy… unfortunately our team’s putters were also cold. Putts did not fall when they needed to and our team lost the lead we had on day 2. Pearl Valley lead the tournament going into the final holes and proved very consistent and difficult to beat. We played better on the back 9 but the team from Paarl kept it together for their first win.
Congratulations Pearl Valley!!!
Golf Tip
If you commit and swing with confidence you will hit good golf shots. However you decide to hit the ball, go for it!!! Commit.
