Brian Wessels played great golf to take the PGA “Road Trip” and “Pards Cup”
Bri Bri kept it together down the stretch on Day 3 of the PGA Road Trip held here every year, defeating well-known players, Ben Fouchee and Algy Kietzman in the process. Brian shot level par in the Par-3 Competition, then teamed up with Dietrick Uys from Irene CC to capture the team Shoot-out. On day two, he finished with a 4-over 76 in windy conditions and followed with a level-par 72 on the last day. The count out procedure gave the individual title to Brian; however, a playoff sounded so much better. He then returned to 18, bashed a big drive, hit the green and rolled a 40-footer to inches from the hole. Par was enough!
Brian also won the Pards Cup which adds all of your results for the event together – your three individual scores, half of the betterball scores each day and a quarter of the alliance scores each day!
I want to thank WBHO for once again sponsoring the players’ purse, Langley Perrins and Global Golf (AHEAD) for the welcome shirts, jackets and caps (they were really well received), Quayside (and Graeme Hall), Brisan on the Canals and Cape St Francis Resort for supplying their boats and drivers for the canal cruise, Quayside, again, for hosting the away night out and all the PGA Professionals who made their way here. At the final, I had only one request, “Send your members to St Francis Links for THEIR next Road Trip – we’ll take great care of them!”
