| A Tale of Two Courses – Friendship and One Epic Victory |
| The results are in, the divots have been replaced and all with banter!
The Moore Annual took place this past weekend and to say it was a success would be an understatement of 18 hole proportions, with a record-breaking turnout of 116 golfers! |
| Arrival and set off for the first round! Full house – no parking left! |
| We kicked things off at St Francis Links with what can only be described as an absolute peach of a day! The weather was so perfect that even the bunkers looked inviting (though Gavin Olivier and Jacques Vermeulen wisely decided to avoid them).
The Links team came out swinging, taking a demanding lead early on. Olivier and Vermeulen set a blistering pace, racking up an incredible 50 points!
On the final day, the action shifted to the Bay. The St Francis Bay members arrived fuelled by two things: a comeback and the undeniable home-ground advantage.
Despite the Bay’s spirited charge, St Francis Links contingent stood strong.
When the final scorecards were tallied, James Rosewarne and Murray Southwood emerged as the ultimate victors of the event!
A massive thank you goes out to Moore, our title sponsors, for making this all possible. We also want to extend our gratitude to Titleist and FootJoy, who came on board as partners to ensure our golfers were the best-equipped.
This tournament wasn’t just about the trophies; it was about the growth of the wonderful relationship between our two clubs. In the small town of St Francis Bay, we are incredibly lucky to have two world-class courses and a community of golfers who know that while the game is serious, the friendship is what matters. |

| Jannie Olivier and Harry Sharp! Jannie eventually winning the arm-wrestling match to take home the trophy! |
| What an event! What a community! Thanks to all those who participated! |

| It’s a year since our last attempt to count the bushbuck on the Links so it’s time to see what might have changed in the past twelve months. Please take photos of the bushbuck you see and send them to Sonny Janeke sonnyjaneke@gmail.com. But this time we are getting a bit more scientific, and we need to ask you to do things in a specific way.
Please take photos of each animal showing the entire left side, ensuring that the spots on the flank, legs, left ear, and any horns are clearly visible. If more than one photo is needed to capture all these details, that is fine, but please label the pictures so we know they are of the same buck.
For each photo, please add a caption with your name, the date and time the photo was taken. If there is more than one photo of the same animal, include a number, e.g., “1 of 3,” “2 of 3,” “3 of 3,” etc.
If it’s not possible to get the left side, please try to take a shot of the head, showing ears, horns and any spots on the face.
We are attempting to use AI to do the analysis, but it’s turned out to be quite a challenge for the app and that’s why we are asking you for more info this time round.
Good luck and happy snapping! |
| The Great January “Janu-Worry” Weather Report |
| Welcome to the January wrap-up, where the only thing more unpredictable than a bunker shot is the Eastern Cape sky. While the rest of the country might be suffering from “Janu-worry” over their bank balances, here at St Francis Links, our only worry was whether to aim three clubs or four clubs to the right to compensate for the breeze. |
| January is traditionally the time when the gentle Easterly winds invite us for a swim. However, this year, the West wind decided it hadn’t seen enough of us.
We saw the West winds dominate the month, claiming 23 out of 31 days. |
| On January 7th, the wind decided to put on a show, peaking at a brisk 60km/h.
However, before you start telling tall tales about being blown off the green, the monthly average was a very respectable 12.5 km/h. |
| The Search for the Missing Rain |
| The “worry” in our Janu-worry really stems from the clouds—or lack thereof. We clocked in a low total of 14.15 mm of rain for the entire month.
We are officially in “desperate need” territory. While we wait for the heavens to open, we encourage our members to please use water sparingly! |
| A Scorcher for the Sun-Seekers |
| While the plants were thirsty, the humans were thriving. We encountered a true “scorcher” with an average temperature of 21.7 C – While that sounds mild, remember that averages include the cool nights; the daytime peaks provided plenty of Vitamin D for the sunbathers and outdoor enthusiasts. |
| Looking Ahead to February |
| As we turn the page on the calendar, we look toward February with hope. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the “Janu-worry” about our water levels will be washed away by a productive, rainy February.
Until then, keep your head down and your sunscreen on! |
