$2,5 MILLION in his pocket!  Ummm, that’s R37M
I have been watching the Million Dollar/Nedbank Challenge for as many years as I can remember. While I have only attended a few, they have all been memorable. This year was no exception as Tommy Fleetwood broke a two-year winning drought by charging to victory on the strength of THREE Eagles. Watch this clip to see his highlights from his final round – pretty special!
Yes, I was rooting for the South Africans, but he went passed them without blinking. About the time he was posting 65, only the Swede, Marcus Kinhult, was involved in the chase. Louis and Zander both found the way home a struggle in Africa’s Major. Kinhult held his own to force a playoff where both players found trouble, Kinhult went left off the tee and Tommy pushed his second shot nearly into the stands to the right. Marcus made a great 5, but it wasn’t to be as Fleetwood played a pearler of an approach and holes his putt from 6-feet. The emotion came pouring out in the form of fist-pumps followed by a tearful interview.

The $2.5-million (R37-million) first prize is obviously a huge windfall, but for a man who has earned more than $20-million on Tour already, and probably the same again in endorsements, it wasn’t life-changing.
The first prize would have been defining for Kinhult, who prior to the NGC had career earnings of $2.08 million (R32-million). The first prize would have more than doubled his lifetime earnings. The “consolation” prize was $850,000 (R12.76-million) for being the runner-up.

Old Friends –

Neil Thomson and Roger Gilson with the Centrestage Band backing them, performed for a room of 200 on Saturday night. They certainly had me singing along and I could see many who knew all the Simon and Garfunkel songs as well. The show, divided into two sets, was fanflippintastic!

One of South Africa’s greatest golfers and gift to golf, Denis Hutchinson, will be here on the 4th of January, with his great mate and SA’s Mr Golf, Dale Hayes. They will be here to entertain the participants from The Pam Golding Annual and all others who wish to attend, with stories that embrace 60 years of fantastic golf and the history of the game. Let’s fill the room in support for this legend(s).
From the Organisers…
We would be delighted to work with you on bringing the Denis Hutchinson Tribute Tour to your part of the world. Isn’t it amazing that 2019 is the 60th Anniversary of Denis Hutchinson winning the SA Open – the last amateur to do so – and in recognition of this achievement we are implementing this fantastic initiative.
To give you a feel for how it works, the “Denis Hutchinson Tribute Tour with Dale Hayes” has a few facets to it with the primary one obviously being for golfers around the country to pay tribute to Denis and his service to the game. At the same time, many people will be able to gain an insight into more than a century of involvement in golf that these Golf Hall of Famers have had around the world both on the fairways and behind the microphone.
